3M Malaysia Showcases Scotchshield Crystalline Auto Film And Auto Wrap Film Series 1080 At KLIMS 2018

If you only know 3M as the maker of Post-It Notes, then school yourself. Other than the little sticky note pads, they also make Scotch Tape, Scotchgard protector sprays and cleaners, filters and some 55,000 other abrasive, adhesive, dental, medical, car care, etc. products. At KLIMS 2018, 3M Malaysia is particularly showcasing their car care products such as the Scotchshield Crystalline Security Auto Film and the 3M Auto Wrap Film Series 1080.

The 3M Crystalline Auto Film series offers sun protection by blocking up to 99.9% of harmful UV (ultraviolet) rays to provide a total SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of over 1,000. SPF is the relative measure of how long a you can be protected from UV-B rays which is the primary cause of sunburn and skin damage. Using a proprietary multi-layer optical film that combines over 200 layers of nano-technology in a film thinner than a Post-It Note, 3M Crystalline Series with a relatively clear appearance can reject more heat than many darker films. 3M’s film can also improve in-car comfort by rejecting up to 97% of IR (infrared) rays and rejects up to 60% of heat coming through the windows (IR rejection measured on film only from 900nm to 1,000nm, using applicable industry test methods and standards).

The 3M Scotchshield Crystalline Series also provides a protective barrier against theft as it takes more time and effort to break and penetrate, by holding glass fragments in place even when the glass is shattered. Another feature of the 3M film is the lack of metallic elements in the film. Metallised films are common in the market but these films tend to disrupt phone, GPS and infrared signals of autogate systems (like Smart Tag). Metallised film are also prone to corrosion and discolouration over time. 3M Malaysia also took the opportunity to launch three new colours for its 3M Auto Wrap Film Series 1080 range i.e. Gloss Flip Ghost Pearl, Satin Flip Psychedelic and Shadow Military Green. The 3M Auto Wrap features pressure-activated adhesives so it isn’t immediately sticky upon tearing and makes for easy sliding and positioning on the car body. Repositioning of the wrap is also easy, and the minuscule air release channels ensure smoother, bubble-free adhesion.

Should you grow tired of your wrap and decide to try a new colour, the 3M Auto Wrap Film is easy to remove and its adhesive will not adversely affect or damage your original car paint (provided the wrap has not been left on for too long e.g. 5 years or more). Even if some of its adhesives stay on the car, 3M has cleaning solutions that help take care of it (it’s one of the 55,000 products that they have).

In addition, 3M Malaysia also introduced its concept wrap – 3M Scotchlite Print Wrap Film 780mC-10R which adds sparkle and shine to your vehicle. This wrap catches attention in the day and reflects at night. It works by using glass beads or cube corners to reflect light back directly at the source. The beaded reflective films typically use a very thin layer of aluminium behind the glass bead which causes the light to reflect back through the glass bead.

During KLIMS ’18 (which ends on 2 December 2018), 3M Malaysia will have demonstrations on the heat and UV rejection, and security of its films as well as see examples of the Auto Wrap and Scotchlite Print Wrap applications.
