The overall four-wheeler sales report for the FY2022 reveals the Maruti Suzuki WagonR as the best selling car in India, whereas the Tata Nexon becomes India’s favourite SUV.
In addition to that, a majority of models show a very positive YoY growth despite the semiconductor shortage and pandemic-related sales constraints.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR (1,88,838 units)
Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been on sale for more than two decades in the Indian automobile market and has been a consistent seller for the Indo-Japanese automaker.
Now, analysing the FY2022 sales, the tall-boy hatchback takes the top step of the podium by selling 1,88,838 units. This means the model has witnessed a YoY sales growth of almost 18 per cent as the company managed to sell just 1,60,330 units in FY2021.
Maruti Suzuki Swift (1,67,827 units)
The Maruti Suzuki Swift has become a default choice for many people in India. In FY2022 alone, Maruti Suzuki has sold 1,67,827 units of this hatchback.
However, the YoY sales for the Maruti Suzuki Swift has declined by more than 2 per cent as the Indo-Japanese automaker was able to sell 1,72,671 units in March 2021.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno (1,46,183 units)
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno laid the foundations for the Nexa model lineup and has been a consistent seller for the Indo-Japanese company. However, the YoY sales figures reveal that the recent update to the model was more than an essential update as the company witnessed more than 10 per cent dip in YoY sales performance.
In terms of numbers, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,46,183 units in FY2022 as opposed to 1,63,445 units in FY2021.
Maruti Suzuki Alto (1,45,167 units)
Like the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, the Maruti Suzuki Alto has been in the Indian automobile industry for more than two decades. However, unlike the WagonR hatchback, Alto has witnessed an 8.7 per cent decline in sales as the company could only sell 1,45,167 units of Alto in FY2022.
In comparison, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,58,992 units in FY2021, resulting in a difference of 13,825 units in terms of YoY sales.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire (1,26,790 units)
Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a very successful model for the Indo-Japanese automaker in India, In FY2022 alone, the sub-4m sedan gave Maruti Suzuki 1,26,790 new customers.
However, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,461 units more of this sedan in the previous financial year, thus resulting in a slight decline in YoY sales of approximately 1.1 per cent.
Tata Nexon (1,24,130 units)
Tata Nexon is one of the safest SUVs in the market and the first Indian SUV to score a 5-Star safety rating from Global-NCAP. Though, not a segment leader when launched, thanks to a strong campaign to increase awareness in the general public regarding automobile safety by Tata Motors, the sales of Tata Nexon increased gradually.
This trend is reflected in YoY sales as Tata Motors witnessed more than 94 per cent increase in sales of the Nexon SUV by selling 1,24,130 units in FY2022.
Hyundai Creta (1,18,092 units)
Hyundai Creta has been an immensely popular SUV in the Indian automobile market and has been the best seller for Hyundai for quite some time now. In FY2022 alone, the South Korean automaker sold 1,18,092 units.
However, these numbers fall short when compared to the sales attained a year ago as the company sold 1,20,035 units, thus resulting in a YoY sales dip of almost 1.6 per cent.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (1,17,150 units)
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is a very popular 7-seater MPV in India as it delivers hatchback-rivalling running costs and can seat 7 adults in decent comfort. Moreover, the 7-seater MPV sold 1,17,150 units in FY2022.
This means the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has witnessed a YoY sales increase of more than 32 per cent as the company managed to sell just 94,635 units in the previous financial year.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza (1,13,711 units)
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is also a very popular SUV in its segment and the Indo-Japanese automaker sold 1,13,711 units in FY2022. This has resulted in a positive YoY sales growth of more than 20 per cent.
In terms of numbers, Maruti Suzuki Brezza sold 19,076 units more in FY2022 compared to the previous financial year.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco (1,08,345 units)
Maruti Suzuki Eeco is a very versatile vehicle with many abilities. Moreover, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco is a favourite among many small business holders for its ability to be highly versatile.
Dissecting numbers, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,08,345 units of this van in FY2022 as opposed to 1,05,081 units. This has resulted in a YoY sales increase of more than 3 per cent.
Thoughts About FY2022 Car Sales
The FY2022 has shown great recovery post the pandemic. Apart from that, most models have shown very positive YoY sales growth and the overall top 10 model sales have also gone up by 8 per cent.
