Can the new generation BS6 RC 125 dominate the old-gen RC 125 in this long drag race battle; Read on to find out
KTM launched the RC 125 almost four years ago in the country, and it is the cheapest fully-faired sportbike from the Austrian bike manufacturer. One of the significant reasons behind the popularity of this baby RC is that it shares almost all its hardware with the most expensive RC model sold in India.
Besides sharing its hardware, the sportsbike also shares its design language with its bigger RC cousins.
Recently, KTM launched the new generation RC 125 in the country. But is it quicker than the old RC? This long drag race battle has all the answers.
In this video Youtuber Solo Traveler drag races the new generation RC 125 against the RC 125 BS6 variant. Who do you think is the quicker fully-faired variant amongst the duo?

The second-generation KTM RC 125 shares its engine with the first-generation RC 125 BS6 variant. It uses a 124.7cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that churns out 14.5 PS of power at 9250 RPM and 12 Nm of torque at 8000 RPM. The engine is paired to a six-speed gearbox.
The BS6 compliant RC 125, on the other hand, uses the same 124.7cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine. The unit paired to a six-speed gearbox produces 14.5 PS of power at 9,250 RPM and 12 Nm of torque at 8,000 RPM.
KTM RC 125 New VS KTM RC 125 BS6: Drag Race
Round one
Both the riders set off on the mark of three horns. The new-gen KTM RC 125 takes the lead immediately at the start of round one proving that the new and improved aerodynamic design worked for the motorcycle. The old BS6 RC 125 wasn’t too far behind either, and it managed to overtake its rival towards the end of the race. But the new-gen RC 125 slipstreamed the old RC and barely managed to win the first round.
Round two
Both the riders set off on the mark of three horns
After the close fight in round one, the riders decided to swap their bikes to achieve a fair result. After exchanging their motorcycles, the riders decided to give it another shot. The rider set off on the mark of three horns.
The old-gen KTM RC 125 takes the lead in round two and maintained the lead throughout the race. The new-gen RC 125 failed to overtake its rival in the second drag race battle. The old generation RC 125 won the second round fair and square.
Conclusion
The bike hasn’t received any upgrades to its engine
The new generation KTM RC 125 and the old generation RC 125 drag race ended in a draw.
The new generation RC 125 produces almost the same power as the old-gen model, and there is not much improvement in terms of performance. But, the improved aerodynamics of the new generation RC gives it a slightly better edge over its rival.
