Selling like hotcakes, XUV700s have finally started reaching mod-shops for some next level customisations
Even though mass-segment car manufacturers shy away from offering 19-inch rims in India due to the road quality, the oversized rims are quite popular among many in the country. We have already seen Toyota Fortuner Legender, Mahindra Thar and Mahindra Scorpio with oversized rims. This time, a Mahindra XUV700 gets to wear the massive 24-inch rims.
The video by JHOne shows the XUV700 with massive 24-inch alloy wheels. The steel coloured five-spoke rims contrast the silver shade of the XUV700 very well. There are other changes too.
The brake callipers get a red paint job that adds to the sporty looks of the XUV700. With the bigger alloy wheels, the owner has also added wider tyres that will provide extra grip and traction to the car.
Such changes can cost a lot
While there is no information about the price of the new alloy wheels in the video, they can cost quite a lot. The set of four alloy wheels will cost a minimum of Rs 2.5 lakh while the branded ones can cost a lot more. Also, the price of the oversized tyres for these large rims can cost about Rs 1.5 lakh more. The whole set-up can cost about Rs 3 to 4 lakh.
But there are problems with oversized rims
Many owners have modified the car with numerous changes
Big alloy wheels have always been a problem on the broken, pot-hole ridden roads of the country. Manufacturers like Toyota and Ford introduced 17-inch alloy wheels in India but then replaced them with 16-inch alloys.
With thinner sidewalls, the tyres on the 17-inch alloy wheels cannot survive for long on the Indian roads. Apart from being more susceptible to breaking, the oversized alloy wheels are illegal and they also cause handling and comfort issues.
The aftermarket oversized rims can negatively affect the suspension and prematurely age them. This happens because the suspension and the steering are not tuned according to the size of the rims.
