Maruti will launch its first electric vehicle in India in the year 2025
According to the media reports, both Maruti and Toyota have joined hands and are working on a new mid-sized SUV to be priced aggressively and will be launched in 2025.
New Design language and platform
the platform is derived from the Japanese brand’s 40 PL global architecture.
Codenamed YY8, the upcoming electric SUV will feature a new design language that will be futuristic. The upcoming electric car from Maruti will be a mid-size SUV and will have a length of around 4,275 mm, a width of 1,880 mm, a height of 1,640 mm and will have a wheelbase of 2700 mm.
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki EV will be wider and larger than the Hyundai Creta.
The YY8 will underpin a skateboard 27PL platform derived from Toyota’s 40 PL global architecture. The new platform gets four wheels placed right at the very corner in order to help maximise the space for the battery and the cabin. The new platform does not have a transmission tunnel, engine compartment, or center console.
Maruti Suzuki Electric Car Battery pack, Motor, and Driving Range
The upcoming electric vehicle will rival the Tata Nexon and will offer a range of between 400-500 km
Maruti and Suzuki have focussed on localising the components of their electric vehicle. The battery of their upcoming electric SUV will be manufactured in India.
The battery pack is the most important and the most expensive component of an electric vehicle. The local manufacturing of the battery means that the company will be able to price the EV aggressively. Maruti Suzuki will; source the battery pack from TDSG – the joint venture between Suzuki Motor Corp, Toshiba Corp, and Denso Corp.
Few media reports also state that there will be two sizes for the battery pack- a 48 kWh and a 59 kWh.
The smaller 48 kWh battery pack will drive a smaller single motor which will send power to two wheels. The 2WD variant will be available on the entry-level variant and will produce around 138 Hp of power. It will provide a range of 400 km.
The bigger 39 kWh battery pack will have an all-wheel-drive with two electric motors. The expected power output will be around 168 Bhp. It will provide a range of 500 km approximately under standard test conditions. It is still unclear whether the all-wheel-drive variant of the YY8 will be offered in the domestic market or will be exported to other countries.

It still remains a mystery at what price the YY8 will be launched in India. But one is for sure with all the latest technology onboard the upcxoming EV will be a game-changer for Maruti Suzuki.
