BYD already sells the electric MPV to the fleet owners in India
It looks like the Chinese automaker BYD is working to bring another car into the Indian car market. The brand already sells BYD E6 in India exclusively to fleet buyers.
Recently, a fully uncovered unit of BYD Han electric sedan was spotted inside the production facility of BYD near Chennai, India by Overdrive.
Is BYD Han coming to India?
BYD Han is spotted in Chennai, India
The spotting of this red-coloured BYD Han in its production-ready form suggests that BYD might be working on a prototype imported to the Indian market. It is to test new cars in the Indian climate and road conditions. It is something that all the carmakers do before bringing their global products to India.
What is BYD Han performance sedan?

The BYD Han is a fully-electric sedan, which is the flagship product of Chinese automaker Build Your Dreams (BYD) globally. Aimed at cars like Tesla Model 3, the BYD Han is a five-seater sedan that uses a unique battery technology with a staggered and segmented cell structure for its 76.9 kWh LFP blade battery.
In the NEDC cycle, the BYD Han claims an impressive driving range of 605 km in its single-motor front-wheel-drive versions. Globally, the Han is also available with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version, with a 221 PS electric motor at the front and a 272 PS electric motor at the rear. This all-wheel-drive version of BYD Han is capable of covering the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.9 seconds.
Can be a Tesla-rival
And recently, we got to see the new updated variant of the Han
The BYD Han is a modern-day EV that is packed with new-age features like eleven airbags, a level 3 autonomous driving assistance system, NFC operated mobile key and a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system with OTA updates and voice assistant. It also comes with Nappa leather upholstery with wood and aluminium inserts for the cabin.
But will it come to the Indian market?
BYD sells the Han in many other parts of the world
It is unclear whether BYD has imported this unit of Han for trial runs for launching the car or for component testing as a part of its constant trial processes. Currently, BYD has marked its presence in India as a maker of electric commercial buses and the e6 electric MPV. BYD sells the e6 through eight dealerships across India as a fleet-only MPV.
If BYD intends to launch the Han in India, it might expand its dealer network and position Han as a premium and aspirational product. It might be a tough task for a relatively new carmaker like BYD in front of established auto giants like Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo, which already have introduced at least one fully-electric car in India.
