Even though many enthusiasts love two-doors and two-seater cars, there are not many options available in India
In India, two-seater and two-door cars are perceived as aspirational products instantly recognizable due to their uniqueness and rarity on the roads. While such two-door vehicles are not as practical or spacious from the inside, they offer the additional style statement and distinctive visual appeal.
The issue is that the two-seater or two-door cars, primarily sports coupes and convertibles, are hugely expensive in India, and only a lucky few can afford to buy and maintain them. However, there are some two-door cars and SUVs, which one can buy at much lower prices from the used car market. Some of the popular ones from the used car market are listed as follows:
Mahindra Thar
The second-generation Mahindra Thar has become a rage among the people and is one of the most affordable lifestyle vehicles available in India. In comparison to the first-generation model, the new version has become much more refined, powerful, safer and better equipped. While the first-generation model is not as plush as the current one and is crude from the inside, it had a capable four-wheel-drive system and a reliable and torquey diesel engine.
Since the arrival of the new-generation Thar, many previous-generation models are hitting the used car market. These models used to come with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which produces 63 bhp of maximum power and 182.5 Nm of maximum torque. This version features a 5-speed manual gearbox and a four-wheel-drive system as standard.
Force Gurkha
It includes the Thar and the Gurkha
Another two-door four-wheel-drive SUV is often seen as a direct rival to the Mahindra Thar, the Force Gurkha is undoubtedly one of the most underrated four-wheel-drive SUVs to buy. The Gurkha received a massive makeover in 2021, but the model sold before the new version also featured a four-wheel-drive system as standard.
Like the previous-generation version of the Thar, the Force Gurkha is also crude and bare-bones and not suitable as a daily driver. But if you want to have a no-nonsense four-wheel-drive SUV, the Gurkha is massively impressive. It is also the only vehicle you can buy with a factory-fitted snorkel.
The previous-generation copies of Force Gurkha available in the used car market had a 2.6-litre diesel engine, capable of producing 86 bhp of power and 230 Nm of torque. Like the Thar, it also came with a 5-speed manual gearbox and the four-wheel-drive system as standard.
Mercedes Benz SLK
Mercedes-Benz SLK has been one of the most sought-after cars in the market
Ever fancied a two-door car with the three-pointed star badge on it? The Mercedes Benz SLK might be an affordable way to accomplish that dream. Mercedes Benz launched the two-door, two-seater SLK in India in 2011 to make two-seater cars more accessible to the people who can afford them. The SLK turned out to be a decent success for the segment to which it belonged, and one can even find a pristinely kept sample in the used car market.
The Mercedes Benz SLK came in India in two variants, SLK 350 and SLK 55 AMG, but it is the former which became more popular among the masses. The SLK 350 used to come with a 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated V6 petrol engine. Mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox, this engine produces 306 bhp of power and 370 Nm of torque.

The Audi TT was a cool looking car, and even today, this two-door sports coupe looks futuristic and beautiful, even though it got pulled out from the Indian car market almost three years ago. Audi sold the second and third-generation versions of the hard-top version of the TT Coupe in India, though it is the latter which has become a more sought-after car in the used car market.
The latter version of the Audi TT sold in India, the Audi TT 45 TSI, looks sharper than its predecessor while retaining its iconic rounded roofline. This version of the TT has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine coupled to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and has Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system as standard. The engine produces 227 bhp of maximum power and 370 Nm of maximum torque.

The BMW Z4 holds a special place in the hearts of BMW lovers in India. The Z4 became an instant hit when its second-generation model launched in India in 2013.
While the Indian market received the third-generation BMW Z4 in 2019, many samples of the second-generation model are now available in the used car market at decent prices. This particular generation of the BMW Z4 was on sale in India in the sDrive 35i guise, which came with the combination of a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine and a 7-speed automatic gearbox. There are a lot of options in the market if you’re looking to buy a two-door or a two-seater car
Mini first came to India officially in 2012 with its iconic two-door hatchback, the Mini Cooper. It was the second-generation version of the car, which got replaced in 2014 with the third-generation version. Currently, the Mini Cooper is in the facelifted form of the third-generation version, but the former two versions have become more popular due to their presence in the used car market.
The second-generation version of the Mini Cooper sold between 2012 and 2014 came with a 1.6-litre inline-four petrol engine, which was available with a 6-speed automatic and promised 122 bhp of power and 160 Nm of torque. One can also buy the pre-facelift two-door version of the third-generation Mini Cooper, offered with a 1.5-litre 115 bhp diesel engine and a 2.0-litre 189 bhp turbo-petrol engine.

Range Rover Evoque Coupe
The are two-door SUVs like the Range Rover Evoque Coupe
The Range Rover Evoque Coupe was on sale in India between 2011 and 2014 in a single Dynamic Si4 Coupe variant. This two-door version of the regular Evoque is a unique-looking vehicle and grabs attention wherever it goes, despite being an almost decade-old SUV. The Evoque Coupe had very few takers in India due to its practicality constraints, but if you are lucky enough, you can find one in the used car market.
The Range Rover Evoque Coupe was available in a single petrol-powered engine option – a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This engine claimed maximum power output of 240 bhp and a peak torque output of 340 bhp.
