The Central Government has asked electric vehicle makers to take immediate action on the incidents of electric scooters catching fire
In recent times, various incidents of electric scooters catching fires in various parts of the country have shocked many people, especially those who own or are contemplating buying an electric two-wheeler. The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has issued a statement in which he has asked all the electric vehicle makers to take strict and immediate actions.
He has ordered issuing recalls of the affected batches of vehicles, which could otherwise result in heavy penalties. Citing this order, Ola Electric has now issued a voluntarily recall of 1,441 units of S1 Pro electric scooters.

Not a long time, an Ola S1 Pro caught fire in the bright daylight on a busy road in Pune. As a result, the scooter burnt down to ashes within a few minutes. Ola Electric has issued a recall of 1,441 units of the S1 Pro manufactured in the same batch in which the scooter that caught fire in Pune belonged.
In an official statement released by Ola Electric, the company has said that it is issuing a voluntary recall of 1,441 scooters as a pre-emptive measure. In this recall, the company will be conducting a detailed diagnostics and health check of the S1 Pro scooters included in the specific batch affected by this recall. Ola Electric also said that its service engineers will be inspecting the scooters, whereas components such as battery and thermal systems will also undergo diagnostics.

In this statement, Ola Electric also claimed that the battery used in the S1 Pro is compliant to Indian standard AIS 156 and European standard ECE 136. This statement is a consequence of the fire incident which occured in Pune on March 26th.

In the few weeks, a few electric scooters from Ola Electric, Pure EV, Okinawa and Jitendra EV have caught fire. One of such incidents, in which an Okinawa electric scooter caught fire, also claimed the lives of a person and his daughter in Vellore.
In the first week of April, a batch of 20 electric scooters from Jitendra EV caught fire in a cargo truck carrying these scooters from its factory in Nashik. In the most recent incident, a Pure EV scooter burst on its own in Nizamabad, Telangana, which claimed the life of the 80-year-old riding it.

As a result of these unfortunate incidents, electric vehicle manufacturers like Okinawa, Pure EV, and Ola Electric have issued recalls of specific batches of their electric scooters to examine the root cause of these incidents. Due to these incidents bringing bad fame to the revolution of electric mobility,
Nitin Gadkari has ordered the formation of a special committee to look into the matter. He said that if any electric vehicle maker is found negligent in their manufacturing and development processes, the government will impose heavy penalties and order recalls of defective electric vehicles. He also added that the government might soon bring new quality-centric guidelines for EVs.
