Not one, not two, but we’re giving you three reasons why we think so
Keeping its streak of yearly updates going, TVS has taken the wraps off the new NTorq 125 XT, the fifth (!) variant in the NTorq lineup.
While the NTorq lineup easily ranks up as one of the best Indian-made scooters, things have simply gotten out of hand with this update, almost to the point where it just doesn’t make sense anymore.
Wondering why? Well, that’s exactly what we’re telling you today.
2022 TVS NTORQ 125 XT – Too Many Distractions
TVS has launched the new NTORQ 125 XT in India
One of the main USPs of the new NTorq 125 XT is its looooong list of features. Apart from the usual bits seen on the other NTorqs, this one gets an enhanced voice assist feature dubbed ‘SmartXtalk’ and a new notification tracker feature dubbed ‘Smartxtrack’.
While the former is a good addition, the latter is where things get out of hand. You see, the Smartxtrack feature tracks all kinds of notifications from weather and news to social media (because that’s exactly what we need while riding) and cricket scores, all of which are displayed on a new TFT display accompanying the other LCD unit.
First is the new instrument cluster with one LCD and one TFT display
As exciting and fun as this sounds, we feel this is a bit too much, as not only will such alerts on the screen cause distractions for the rider, but they can decrease awareness and ultimately lead to accidents. After all, a message notification from your special someone will surely make you look, right?
2022 TVS NTORQ 125 XT – Misses Out On Performance
Another disappointing bit here is the scooter’s power output. Instead of using the Race XP’s engine, this one uses the less powerful 9.4PS engine from the Race Edition
The TVS NTorq XT is powered by the same 124.8cc, single-cylinder engine which does duty on the other variants of the NTorq.
What’s odd here, though, is the fact that this one makes 9.4PS and 10.5Nm, same as the Race Edition, instead of being based on the flagship NTorq Race XP, even though it costs a lot more than its siblings.
What’ll help the NTorq XT feel faster, however, is its lighter ten-spoke alloy wheels.
2022 TVS NTORQ 125 XT – Pricing
As striking as it looks in its new livery, the updates don’t really make a lot of sense
Speaking of cost, TVS has priced the NTorq 125 XT at a bonkers Rs 1,02,823 (ex-showroom, Delhi), making it Rs 15,000 more expensive than the flagship NTorq Race XP and Rs 20,000 more expensive than the NTorq Race Edition.
You do get a special color scheme, lighter alloys, and more features here for the extra moolah, but Rs 15,000 is a big sum for most consumers and the XT simply doesn’t come across as a decent value-for-money prospect, thanks to this very reason.
However, had this been based on the Race XP platform, the scooter would’ve had a better shot at roping in decent sale figures.
