Bored of your sub-400cc motorcycle and looking to step up? Then, here are a few easy-on-the-pocket upgrades for you
Superbikes are on the wishlist of all motorcyclists and with the multi-cylinder bike craze at an all-time high in India, there are some epic used bikes you can buy right now.
Which ones, you ask? Well, this is exactly what we’ll be telling you below by listing down the top five used superbikes worth buying.
Why Should You Buy A Used Big Bike?
Before getting to the list, let us give you a few reasons why buying a used big bike makes more sense than getting a new one.
To start off, the main reason you should go for a used motorcycle is the outright cost and depreciation. Compared to new motorcycles, used big bikes cost quite less, and this, in turn, means if (for whatever reason) you plan to sell off the big bike in the near future, the depreciation won’t be as enormous as a new bike.
Next, used bikes are perfect to get you acquainted with the expenses usually associated with superbikes. So instead of directly buying a new big bike and paying extra taxes right after a sub-400cc bike, you should first buy a used, affordable superbike to get an idea of the expenses associated with a superbike, basically to find out whether you can handle it or not. Not to mention, this can also help you get familiar with the weight and power of big bikes, thus preparing you for bigger bikes.
Now that you know, let’s get to the list.
Kawasaki Ninja 650 – Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh
Looking to upgrade to a superbike? Allow us to tell you five used (and affordable) big bikes that you can buy right now
The most affordable (and worthy) used bike you can buy in India right now has to be the Kawasaki Ninja 650.
With prices starting from as low as Rs 3 lakh (for 2015-2016 models), the Kawasaki Ninja 650 offers an excellent price-to-power ratio and has just the right amount of juice to help you get acquainted with the grunt of superbikes.
First up is the Kawasaki Ninja 650 that is available from as low as Rs 3 lakh (for MY 2015) going up to Rs 6.5 lakh (for MY 2017)
Power aside, the Kawasaki Ninja 650 also doubles up as a sporty faired bike and a comfortable tourer, meaning you’ll grab eyeballs as well as keep your back intact while doing so.
Plus, Kawasaki has the best service network in India (for superbikes), so servicing and parts availability will be much easier here compared to other brands.
Kawasaki Z800/Z900 – Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh
Next up is the Kawasaki Z800 which can be bought for as low as Rs 5 lakh (MY 2013-2014), making it the most affordable four-cylinder bike you can get in India right now
Not feeling the Ninja 650 and want something more powerful? Then, the Kawasaki Z800 and Z900 are perfect for you.
A used Kawasaki Z800 (not discontinued) is ideally priced between Rs 5 to 6 lakh, depending on the accessories, number of owners, and condition, which makes it a decent deal. Meanwhile, the Z800’s successor, the Z900, is a comparatively newer model and can be had for as low as around Rs 6-6.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh, again depending on the aforementioned factors.
However, we’d recommend you put in a little bit more money and get the lighter and more powerful, Kawasaki Z900 which costs around Rs 6.5-7 lakh (MY 2017)
Between the two, I’d recommend the Z900 as it is a newer model, makes more power, and has better riding dynamics. However, if your prime need is that inline-four growl, the Z800 is arguably your most affordable way out.
Once again, thanks to Kawasaki’s extensive service network, parts availability and servicing is pretty sorted for either motorcycle.
Honda CBR650F – Rs 5 to Rs 7 lakh
Looking for a fully-faired inline-four bike? Then, the Honda CBR650F is your best bet
Another inline-four motorcycle that you can buy at a decent price is the Honda CBR650F. The average price for a used MY 2015 CBR650F is around Rs 5-5.5 lakh, while the later models cost somewhere around Rs 6.5-7 lakh.
Coming to the bike, the Honda CBR650F is the predecessor of the currently on sale CBR650R and offers an amazing blend of inline-four prowess along with sporty yet comfortable ergonomics..
With used bike prices starting from Rs 5.5 lakh, the CBR650F is an epic value-for-money option offering comfortable ergos, inline-four growl, and superbike-like looks
Compared to the Ninja 650, the CBR650F has a more powerful engine, better features, and offers a more sporty experience in general. What makes this even more delectable is Honda’s proven reliability and low ownership costs.
Honda’s service network isn’t as widespread, however, so make sure to look up for Honda BigWing dealerships before getting this one.
Triumph Street Triple 765S – Rs 7 to 8 lakh
Coming to the more premium end of things, we come to the Triumph Street Triple S
Next up on the list is the Triumph Street Triple 765S, the popular 765RS’ less sophisticated sibling. The Street Triple S went on sale here for a brief period (2017 to 2019), so there isn’t an abundance of these in the used market, but if you look hard enough, you can get one for anywhere between Rs 7 to 8 lakhs.
While this isn’t exactly cheap, the Street Triple S is easily one of the most fun motorcycles to ride around, offering quality components along with a power 765cc triple-cylinder engine, the same as the popular Street Triple RS.
While these are hard to find, you can get one for around Rs 7-8 lakh, a decent price for a powerful, do-it-all naked motorcycle that’s based on the lauded Street Triple RS
Thanks to these bits, the Street Triple S is surely an option you should consider, especially if you’re into naked motorcycles and looking for something you can take to the track, ride in the city, and even tour on.
However, like Honda, Triumph’s service network isn’t very vast, so make sure to have either a trusted big-bike mechanic around you or an official Triumph service station.
Harley-Davidson Iron 883 – Rs 4.5 to 6 lakh
Finally, for the cruiser fans out there, the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 is arguably the best big cruiser you can buy as a used one can be bought for just under Rs 5 lakh
With naked bikes and sportbikes done, we come to the most affordable used cruiser big-bike, the Harley-Davidson Iron 883.
With prices hovering between Rs 4.5 lakh (MY 2015) to Rs 6 lakh (MY 2017), the Iron 883 is a perfect buy for people who want a premium cruiser bike without breaking the bank.
While we’ve told you the prices, there are a couple of pointers you should keep in mind before going for these bikes. Swipe up to know all about them.
As a bonus, if you go for an Iron 883, you can join the prestigious Harley Owners Group and enjoy exclusive tours and Sunday rides amongst other perks.
Coming to maintenance, if you had asked me about buying a Harley last year, I would’ve probably told you to look the other way, but with the American giant joining hands with Hero to improve its after-sales services, this is a much safer bet now.
Out of all these, which one would you pick and why? Comment down below!
