Yes and no. Maruti Suzuki has taken the safest route to update the car in a way that they do not have to change much in the production facility. The new XL6 gets updated front grille that now offers more chrome. Everything else in the front remains the same.
The side profile looks fresh because of the new alloy wheels. The car gets 16-inch alloy wheels instead of 15-inches. With the machined alloy wheels, the XL6 does look thoroughly updated.
There is a new shark fin antenna on the top. While the rear gets updated tail lamps. The shape of the tail lamps remains the same but these are now smoked and clear lenses, which definitely adds a sporty touch. We feel that the tail lamps are the most interesting update on the new S-Cross’s exterior.
What are the changes inside the cabin?
The cabin is updated but gets the same layout
The third and the second row do not get any changes. They are as is. The front seats are now updated. While the colour of the seats remains black, Maruti Suzuki now offers perforated seats, which are ventilated. The new seats are a blessing if you stay in a hot region.
Maruti Suzuki has also updated the dashboard by changing the colour of the wooden inserts. The size of the screen remains the same but there are connected features now. By using Amazon Alexa or Suzuki Connect app, the owner can control a long list of features remotely. This includes a climate control system, lock/unlock, fuel level, turning on the indicators and much more.
These are ventilated seats
It also gets a new 360-degree camera view and tyre pressure monitoring system. All the variants of the new Maruti Suzuki XL6 now gets four airbags as standard. The car does not get six airbags as it will require massive changes to the roof, which also houses the AC vents for the rear passengers.
Maruti Suzuki has added new seats in the front
It misses out on auto-dimming IRVM, a sunroof and features like a wireless phone charging system. The fit and finish though are quite good.
Maruti Suzuki XL6 now offers four airbags as standard across the variants. Additional safety features like ESP and hill hold control make the new XL6 safer than before. However, Maruti Suzuki has not changed anything structurally in the vehicle.
So what exactly has changed in the new XL6?
The car now gets a fresh face with a new chrome grille
Engine and automatic transmission are the biggest change in the new XL6. The car now gets a 1.5-litre K-Series engine with DualJet technology. There are two fuel injectors per cylinder that ensure better fuel burning.
Maruti Suzuki has also upgraded the SHVS system. It now houses a bigger battery that ensures that there is ample boost available whenever the car is accelerating. It helps the vehicle to increase overall fuel efficiency.
The new Maruti Suzuki XL6 also gets a brand-new 6-speed torque convertor. It replaces the outdated 4-speed automatic transmission and is leaps ahead. The automatic transmission also offers paddle shifters and they do work very well.
With better low-end torque and new 6-speed automatic transmission, the 2022 XL6 has become much better to drive. It is plaint at high speeds and is very confident to drive. The 6-speed transmission gets quick shifts. There is no hesitancy to change the gears even while driving in manual mode.
During our drive of more than 100 km, we got a screen-indicated fuel efficiency of more than 17.7 km/l, which is extremely good for an automatic model.

Being a Maruti Suzuki model, the XL6 is a safe choice. There are ample service centres across the country and the car is very affordable to maintain as well. The new XL6 manual starts at Rs 11.39 lakh while the top-end Alpha Plus automatic variant costs Rs 14.39 lakh. All the three trims get an option of automatic transmission and the automatic variants cost Rs 1.5 lakh more than the standard manual variants.
