An acceleration test to find out if the Himalayan-based Scram can beat a sports bike
Royal Enfield recently launched the Himalayan-based Scram 411 in India. The bike promises better maneuverability inside the Urban jungle and even off the tarmac. The Scram features the same 411cc, single-cylinder motor that does duty on the Himlayan, but it is comparatively lighter and thus promises better performance. But can the Royal Enfield Scram 411 beat a Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 in a drag race?
In this video by Suraj Verma, watch the RE Scram 411 taking on the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 in a drag race. Which bike do you think shall win this battle?
The Contenders
The newly introduced RE Scram packs the same 411cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled, SOHC, a fuel-injected unit from the Himalayan, producing the same 24.31 hp of peak power at 6,500rpm and 32Nm of torque at 4,250rpm while being mated to a five-speed gearbox.
The Bajaj Pulsar RS 200, on the other hand, has a 199.5 cc, liquid-cooled, Triple Spark, four-valve, fuel-injected engine. The engine churns out about 24.5 PS of peak power at 9,750 rpm and 18.7 Nm of peak torque at 8000 rpm while paired to a six-speed gearbox.
Royal Enfield Scram 411 VS Bajaj Pulsar RS 200: Drag Race
Round One
That said, both the riders set off the starting line on the mark of three horns
Both riders set off on the mark of three horns. The Royal Enfield Scram 411 takes the lead at the start of round one, but the Pulsar RS200 isn’t far behind either. The Scram 411 offers more torque at the lower rev range, resulting in better initial acceleration. But, the Pulsar RS 200 offers better top-end performance, and thus it overtakes the Scram 411 mid-race and wins the first round of this short drag race battle.
Round two
Who do you think shall win this battle?
The riders decided to swap their bikes to keep the race fair. The RE Scram proves again that it offers much better initial acceleration than the Pulsar RS 200 as it beats its rival in the initial acceleration to the 100 km/h dash. But the RS200 overtakes the Scram towards the end of the race and wins round two of this drag race.
Round 3: Initial Acceleration Test
But the Scram 411 excels when it comes to torque
The rider conducts the third round to check the initial acceleration of these two motorcycles, and without a doubt, the RE Scram 411 won the initial acceleration test fair and square.
Conclusion
Both the Scram and the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 produce the same amount of power
The Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 won the drag race.
The Royal Enfield Scram 411 offers a better initial pickup and a strong mid-range power delivery which helped it beat its rival in the initial acceleration test.
But the Pulsar RS200 is a sports bike and is also lighter than its rival. Moreover, it offers better top-end performance which helped it win the drag race.
