Spoiler alert: The new Honda CB300R gives a good fight to the more powerful TVS Apache RR 310
The Honda CB300R is back for 2022 and it aims to take on the premium sub-400cc motorcycle space, which also includes the Indian-made TVS Apache RR 310.
So which one of these do you think would win in a straight line when they’re pit against each other? Decided? Now, check the actual answer by reading on.
The Contenders
For 2022, the CB300R receives a couple of updates, the most important being the bump in power. It now makes 31.1PS and 27.5Nm
The first contender in this drag race is the updated Honda CB300R. Using its 296cc, single-cylinder engine, it churns out 31.1PS and 27.5Nm, 0.7PS and 0.1Nm more than its BS4 iteration.
Meanwhile, the bike tips the scale at just 147kg (wet), giving it a superb power-to-weight ratio compared to its heftier rivals.
Meanwhile, the TVS Apache RR 310 uses a bigger engine and puts out 34PS and 27.3Nm
Going against the CB is the TVS Apache RR 310. With a BMW G 310 R-borrowed 312.2cc, single-cylinder engine, the RR 310 makes 34PS and 27.3Nm, giving it an advantage over the CB300R.
However, thanks to all the bodywork, this weighs 174kg, 27kg more than the naked CB.

Getting right into it, the race starts off with three honks.
As you’d expect from the lighter Honda, the CB300R gets a jump on the TVS Apache RR 310, staying ahead till 110kmph. After this, the RR 310’s extra performance, coupled with its better aerodynamics, helps it overtake the naked Honda, ultimately giving it the win.
The RR 310, however, with better aerodynamics passes the naked CB and takes the win
For the next round, the lighter rider (rider weight difference is 15kg) gets astride the Honda while the heavier rider climbs aboard the RR 310, and this is where things take an interesting turn.
Unlike the first race, this time the RR 310 gets a better launch and jumps ahead of the CB300R. But the Honda, with a lighter rider onboard, overtakes the RR 310 just a few seconds later.
For the next round, though, the lighter rider jumps aboard the CB300R and this is where things get really interesting. Swipe up to know what happens next.
What’s even more surprising is that the CB300R manages to stay ahead of the RR 310 till a more than respectable 140kmph, post which, once again, aerodynamics and the extra 3 ponies help the RR 310 seal the deal.
Conclusion
In today’s edition of drag race, the Japanese Honda CB300R attempts to take on the Indian TVS Apache RR 310
The conclusion is pretty simple. Yes, the Apache RR 310 is the faster motorcycle between the two, but there’s no doubt that the Honda CB300R is right on par with it in the first few gears, if not faster.
What this race left us wondering is how good the Honda CBR300R would be if its naked sibling performs so well. Sadly, we’ll probably never find out since Honda is busy focusing on scooters in India.
