With rising fuel costs, the EV domain is earning a lot of hype in the current times. Not only are the fuel costs concerning but the blanket ban on 15-year-old petrol vehicles in some cities has also played a key role in this new trend.
This makes consumers either opt for a brand new EV or convert their existing petrol vehicles to electric. But here is a unique attempt of creating a hybrid bike by retrofitting an EV conversion kit on an old Bajaj Avenger.
We see a new 17-inch wheel at the front which houses a brushless hub electric motor in it.
While the design of this hybrid prototype is largely similar to the stock Avenger, a number of changes however have been made to accommodate the new conversion kit.
In addition to this, new mountings can be seen on the rear fender to carry the battery pack and a small switch on the right side of the handlebar to switch between petrol and electric power modes.
This hybrid Bajaj Avenger features a custom EV conversion kit that makes it special and unique
The bike is said to easily achieve a top speed of over 55 kmph on only hybrid mode.
Powering the Bajaj Avenger is a 220cc engine that puts out 19.03 PS and 17.55 Nm of peak torque while it comes mated 5-speed gearbox.
The hybrid Avenger gets an additional electric motor with a 72V 35A Lithium-ion battery pack that offers a total range of 40-50 km on a full charge.
In the electric mode, the hybrid Avenger can clock over 55kmph on the speedo
It was challenging to say the least to get this Avenger to run on battery power
The front forks had to be re-fabricated in order to house the electric motor, while the front disc brakes too had to be modified in order to work efficiently with the new front wheel. At the rear, the bike’s indicators had to be repositioned to mount the battery case.
The throttle too has been modified to additionally take control of the electric motor
This EV conversion kit has been sourced from GoGoA1 which is available for sale at INR 27,760 on the online platform. Although this hybrid conversion kit seems like an attractive option, it is still unclear if this is an RTO-approved kit, thus questioning its legality.
