The Japanese brand has unveiled a new top-of-the-line variant of the Tenere 700 for 2022
In late 2021, there were speculations that Yamaha was on course to introduce a more off-road specific variant of its Tenere 700.
Putting all these speculations to rest, Yamaha has now officially taken the wraps off the new Tenere 700 World Raid. With the addition of this variant, the Tenere 700 is now offered in three variants, the other two being the Tenere 700 and the Tenere 700 Rally.
Key Highlights
- The Tenere 700 World Raid gets a new 23-litre side-mounted fuel tank
- It gets a new TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity
- Engine remains same as the standard Tenere 700
Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid Design
The new variant sits atop the Tenere 700 family and gets many purposeful changes
Design-wise, the Tenere 700 World Raid isn’t a whole lot different from the standard model. The quad-LED headlight, the bodywork, seat, and the motocross-like tail section are all reminiscent of the existing Tenere 700.
However, the new variant has a few tricks up its sleeves. For starters, it gets a 15mm taller windscreen with easy-to-remove wind deflectors, making it more suitable for high-speed riding. Additionally, you also get a new radiator grille, larger footrests, and a brawny three-piece engine guard to make the bike as rugged and purposeful as ever.
But it actually has a lot of changes. Case in point, this new 23-litre side-mounted fuel tank, 7-litre bigger than the standard bike’s tank
The biggest change, however, is with the fuel tank. Instead of the single-piece 16-litre unit on the other two models, the Tenere 700 World Raid packs dual side-mounted fuel tanks with a total capacity of 23-litres.
Yamaha claims the fuel tanks are good enough for around 500km range and have been designed in such a way that the overall centre of gravity of the bike is more or less similar to the standard bike, thus ensuring similar riding dynamics.
Visibly, the Tenere 700 doesn’t look very different from the standard model, apart from its new colourways
The tank shape has also become flatter in the middle which, according to the company, will make rider movement easier when tackling tricky terrain. With the bigger fuel tank, the bike now weighs 220kg, 16kg more than the standard model.
Topping all this are the bike’s new colours: Icon Blue and Midnight Black. These get forged carbon fibre-like textures on the side panels, which look quite exquisite.
Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid Features
The bike also packs a new TFT instrument cluster with switchable ABS modes and smartphone connectivity
Another monumental change comes to the features. Yamaha has equipped the Tenere 700 World Raid with a new 5-inch TFT instrument cluster, a big step up from the LCD unit on the standard variant. The TFT has three display themes (Explored, Street, and Raid) and gets smartphone connectivity as standard.
Plus, you get switchable ABS and a USB type-A socket. The former has three modes:
- Front ABS On, Rear ABS On: For public roads
- Front ABS On, Rear ABS Off: For loose terrain and off-roading
- Front ABS Off, Rear ABS Off: For professional riders
Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid Suspension & Engine
Both the front and rear suspensions now offer 20mm more travel than the standard Tenere
Coming to the suspension, the Tenere 700 World Raid is more focused here too. It is sprung on a new 43mm KYB USD fork and a piggyback mono-shock, both offering 20mm more travel than the standard Tenere. Along with this, Yamaha has also thrown in an Ohlins steering damper to improve controllability.
Thanks to the upgraded suspension, the bike now has a seat height and ground clearance of 890mm and 250mm, 15mm and 10mm more than the standard variant, respectively.
Yamaha has unveiled the new-for-2022 Tenere 700 World Raid in international markets
Apart from all this, the engine remains unchanged. Like its other variants, the Tenere 700 World Raid uses the 689cc, parallel-twin motor putting out 73PS and 68Nm.
Besides, the braking setup too remains as is. It comprises 282mm dual discs up front along with a single 245mm disc at the rear.
Is It India-bound?
And the taller suspension has also resulted in 10mm more ground clearance, meaning more of this!
Short answer, no.
Long answer, Yamaha is currently focusing on its entry-level segment in India and isn’t necessarily keen on bringing its big bikes here. Consequently, the chances of the Tenere 700 World Raid coming to India are rather bleak. But hey, never say never!
