With a powerful heart, likable design, and a handful of features, the Lexi is more than capable to make a dent in the segment
Yamaha’s 125cc scooter lineup is yet to make a big impact in India as both the Fascino and the Ray-ZR don’t sell nearly as well as their competition. One Yamaha scooter that has the potential to change this, though, is the Yamaha Lexi maxi-styled scooter sold in Indonesia.
Don’t believe us? Well, take a look yourself.
Yamaha Lexi – Design & Features
Boasting a maxi-scooter design, the Lexi gets a big LED headlight up front accompanied by a tinted visor
As mentioned above, the Yamaha Lexi is a maxi-styled scooter and consequently boasts a big apron-mounted headlight accompanied by a tinted visor above it. Now, the design does seem a little out of the ordinary as this looks like a hybrid between a conventional scooter and a maxi-scooter, but it’ll surely turn heads on the road, especially here in India.
To amp up the styling, Yamaha has introduced a new matte green color for the Lexi replete with likable graphics
Adding to its appeal, Yamaha has introduced a new matte green color for the base model of the scooter along with subtle new graphics common for all color options. Besides this, the Lexi S model now gets bronze alloy wheels regardless of the color you pick, making the package sportier than before.
As for features, the Lex boasts LED lighting, USB charging, and a digital instrument cluster among other things
Looks aside, the Yamaha Lexi scores well in the features department too. Here’s what all it gets:
- Start-stop system
- Digital instrument cluster
- LED lights
- Hazard light switch
- Keyless operation (S & S ABS variants only)
- USB charging port (S & S ABS variants only)
In addition to these, the Lexi also boasts a 12.8-liter underseat storage and a front cubby space, the latter being large enough to hold a half-liter bottle.
Yamaha Lexi – Engine & Underpinnings
Meanwhile, the more premium S variant now gets bronze alloy wheels
As impressive as all this is, the USP here has to be the Lexi’s 124.7cc engine which comes equipped with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation), the same tech that’s seen on the Aerox 155 and the Yamaha R15 V4. This, coupled with the engine’s 11.9PS and 11.3Nm output, makes the Lexi considerably more powerful and capable than India’s fastest 125cc scooter, the TVS NTorq Race XP.

Making matters worse for the NTorq, the Lexi tips the scale at just 112kg (base variant) which is 4kg less than the Indian scoot. However, you do get a smaller 4.2-liter fuel tank on the Lexi, compared to the NTorq’s 5.8-liter unit.
Meanwhile, the whole package is sprung on telescopic forks and a gas-charged monoshock, while rolling on 14-inch alloy wheels.
Yamaha Lexi – What’s The Price?
The USP of the Lexi, though, is its 124.7cc powerhouse which puts out 11.9PS and comes equipped with VVA, making it better than the TVS NTorq Race XP
The base variant of the Yamaha Lexi is priced at IDR 22,540,000 (Rs 1.19 lakh) whereas the S and S ABS variants cost IDR 25,565,000 (Rs 1.35 lakh) and IDR 28,190,000 (Rs 1.48 lakh).
These are big prices by Indian standards, considering 125cc scooters cost half as much here, but there’s no denying the fact that the Lexi is more than capable of making a name in India, even if it comes here at a slightly high price.
