We take a look back at how the car was conceived for the film
I’m sure most of you remember Tarzan from the Bollywood movie Tarzan: The Wonder Car and not only did it look fantastic but it also featured a long list of other futuristic features that were unheard of at that time. Although the movie was not a success at the Box Office, the DC design car was able to set a trend of its own.
While the movie mainly focused on the DC-designed car which could jump, swim, fly, and whatnot, we also see the self-drive feature making it India’s first self-driving car, in the movie of course. What made this DC-design Tarzan actually a ‘wonder car’. Let’s check that out.
Tarzan: The Wonder Car
As kids, we all were fascinated by this car
For starters, the Tarzan in the movie was depicted as a custom-built car that not only had ballistic performance but also had many features that set it apart from any other car that you would have expected from any other car at that time. The Tarzan was made out of the protagonist’s father’s car and was built in remembrance of Ajay Devgan’s character.
The Tarzan was a custom hand-made model which boasted a blue colour exterior with scissor doors giving it an appealing personality making a lot of fans all over India. The car was originally based on the 1991 Toyota MR2 which boasted impressive capabilities itself.
DC Design
The car was priced at a price of INR 2 crore but failed to attract an buyers
The man behind the DC-designed Tarzan was Dilip Chabria. The man has designed a long list of custom vehicles in the past along with experimenting with his own sports car.
DC design was given the responsibility to design the Tarzan out of the Toyota MR2 and in our opinion, the firm did an outstanding job. The car was expected to be officially launched in the market but the idea was dropped soon after the movie did not do great numbers at the Box office.
The 1991 Toyota MR2
The MR2 was known to be a powerful and a reliable vehicle
Tarzan – The Wonder Car was based on a 1991 model Toyota MR2 which not only boasts an impressive list of features but also offered a capable and reliable engine setup under its hood.
The old MR2 went through a series of changes and came out as a better avatar of the Toyota MR2 which featured better design and more power than the original car. Powering the MR2 was a 2.0-L inline-4 engine that churns out 200 hp and 271 Nm of net torque mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with a rear-wheel-drive system.
