The Skoda Octavia vRS MK1 was India’s first-ever performance-oriented mass-market sedan with a turbocharged petrol engine
Just a couple of years after the arrival of the first-generation Octavia, popularly known as Octavia MK1, Skoda pulled off a surprise by bringing in its performance derivative, the Octavia vRS. It was the Skoda Octavia vRS MK1 with which the Czech carmaker introduced its coveted vRS badge in India and gave the Indian car enthusiasts the first taste of a turbocharged performance-oriented turbocharged petrol engine-powered.

Fifteen years have passed since Skoda pulled off the plug from the Octavia vRS MK1. However, there continues to be a strong demand for this car, with many car lovers still preserving it with all the possible tender love and care. We have come across one such pristinely-kept Skoda Octavia vRS MK1, bestowed with a host of performance upgrades – all thanks to a video from the YouTube channel of ‘The Drivers Hub’.

While this Skoda Octavia vRS MK1 might not look too outrageous from the outside, the actual madness lies under the car’s hood. This heavily-tuned car gets a front-mounted intercooler, rated to operate till 400 bhp and is sourced from Toro Sports. It also gets a larger air intake with forged plumbing, diverter valve and turbo inlet pipe from Forge Motorsports and a 2.5-inch downpipe with a different twin-rounded exhaust port at the back.

In addition to these updates, the car’s gearbox feels livelier to use with a lighter flywheel and a stronger clutch. The 1.8-litre TSI engine of this Skoda Octavia vRS MK1 also gets Stage 2 APR tune, which makes it substantially more powerful and more torquey. This car has K-Sport big brake kit with slotted disc brakes at the front and slotted disc brakes from Hawk Performance at the rear.

There is a long list of modifications under the hood
The owner of this Skoda Octavia vRS MK1 hasn’t changed the original colour theme of the car, a gleaming shade of bright yellow. However, it looks like a repainted car, which is evident from the shine it possesses. While there are no other cosmetic changes to this Octavia vRS MK1, it now rides on Goodyear F1 tyres wrapped over after-market 17-inch 10-spoke black alloy wheels from Sparco.
Apart from this visual upgrade, this Skoda Octavia vRS MK1 retains the highlights which set it apart from the standard Octavia visually, such as sportier front and rear bumpers and a boot-mounted spoiler.
A true sleeper
But the main changes are under the hood
Thanks to the Stage 2 APR tune, the 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine of this Skoda Octavia vRS MK1 now produces 220 bhp of maximum power and 320 Nm of maximum torque. These figures are much more than what the stock version of Octavia vRS MK1 used to produce – 150 PS of maximum power and 210 Nm of maximum torque. The higher power and torque figures make this Skoda Octavia vRS MK1 feel exhilarating to drive with much quicker acceleration figures.

The modifications in this Skoda Octavia vRS MK1 look tastefully done without the car going bonkers. While the debate on whether this particular version is the most powerful Octavia vRS MK1 in India right now or not, it is certainly one of the most well-maintained and perfectly-customized ones to date.
