The Apache RR 310 may be less powerful than the Yamaha R3, but don’t underestimate its prowess just yet
In 2017, TVS took the stage and launched its flagship product, the Apache RR 310. And at the time, one of its arch-rivals in the Indian market was the globally renowned Yamaha R3, even though it cost a whole lot more than the former.
Ever wondered how these two would fare against in a drag race? Well, we certainly have and YouTuber KSC Vlogs has got us an answer. Read all about it below.
The Contenders
The first contender in this race is the Indian-built TVS Apache RR 310 which makes 34PS and 27.5Nm from its 312cc motor
The first contender in this race is the indigenous TVS Apache RR 310, which is a product of TVS and BMW’s joint venture.
Consequently, it employs a 312cc, single-cylinder engine which also does duty on the BMW G 310 R. The motor puts out 34PS and 27.3Nm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch.
The second contender is the Yamaha R3 which uses a 321cc, twin-cylinder motor making 42PS and 29.6Nm
Taking on the Apache RR 310 here is the Yamaha R3. It fell prey to the stringent BS6 norms in 2020 and hasn’t returned to the Indian market since. In its 2020 avatar, though, the Yamaha R3 was powered by a 321cc, parallel-twin motor belting out 42PS and 29.6Nm, giving it an edge over the RR 310 on paper.
TVS Apache RR 310 vs Yamaha R3
Round 1
In the first race, the TVS Apache RR 310 gets a surprising early lead over the Yamaha R3
Round one is somewhat a surprise. As soon as the race starts, it’s actually the underpowered TVS Apache RR 310 which jolts ahead of the Yamaha R3. And holds its ground till triple-digit speeds!
However, post 100kmph, the Yamaha R3 comes into its element and starts edging ahead of the Apache. As the race progresses, the R3’s lead keeps on increasing further, thanks to its more powerful engine.
Surprisingly, the R3 manages to cross 175kmph in the fifth gear itself, which is more than the RR 310’s overall top speed
The Apache RR 310 attains a top speed of 169kmph which, though excellent, is no match for the R3’s impressive top speed of 188kmph.
As a matter of fact, the Yamaha R3 manages 176kmph in its fifth gear itself, which is 7kmph more than the RR 310’s overall top speed.
1Round 2
Want to know what happens further? Well, simply swipe up to find out!
The riders swap seats for the second round and with a lighter rider onboard the Yamaha R3, the ball is already in its court.
Consequently, the Yamaha R3 surges ahead of the TVS Apache RR 310 from the get-go. Then, the R3 just keeps accelerating ahead, leaving the RR 310 in the dust.
At the end, the TVS Apache manages a top speed of 169kmph, almost 20kmph less than what the R3 attains
Post the race, the R3’s rider reveals that he managed to reach 182kmph in the fifth gear itself, which is nothing but commendable and goes to show what the Yamaha R3’s twin-cylinder engine is capable of.
Which Bike Is The Real Winner Here?
Clearly, the Yamaha R3 prevails over the TVS Apache RR 310 in a straight line. However, the real winner, according to us, is the TVS Apache RR 310, thanks to its excellent blend of features, performance, and value-for-money pricing.
Even when you compare the TVS Apache RR 310 with the current-gen Yamaha R3, it still packs a lot more features and top-shelf components. And with the money you save, you can easily invest that into performance mods to make up for the performance disadvantage it has against the R3.
