With furniture and appliances, this motorhome packs convenience with functionality, making it a traveller’s dream ideal for road trips
Motorhomes are not very popular in India. But due to the prolonged isolation and travel restrictions in the last two years, the urge for exploring new places has hit a new high.
With safety in mind, there is no better mode of travelling than road tripping in a motorhome, driving all by yourself like a nomad, and exploring the world outside. A video from the YouTube channel of ‘Motorhome Adventures’ shows how a Mahindra Bolero pickup goes under modifications and becomes a desirable motorhome.
What are the changes done to this Mahindra Bolero Motorhome?
The customized Mahindra Bolero pickup motorhome shown here in the video has its base on the stock double-cab Bolero pickup, painted in its original shade of brown. There is a range of modifications, primarily at the rear, making it look much more desirable and practical as a motorhome.
Motorhomes are not very popular in India
At the back, the flatbed of the Bolero pickup comes attached with an entirely removable shell, which accommodates the main cabin of the motorhome. The cabin’s skeleton is made of aluminium for better durability, despite being lighter than a shell made of cast iron.
For countering the additional weight of the cabin at the rear, the motorhome comes with an expandable balloon filled with air on the rear axle between the rear wheels, which can harden or soften depending on the requirement. The stance of this Bolero pickup motorhome looks rugged with the inclusion of all-terrain 275/75 R16 off-road spec tyres, each of which can withhold 1,180 kg of load.
How were the changes made?
This is a Mahindra Bolero motorhome that has bed space for four
The shell attached at the rear measures 6 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 6 feet tall and comes with jack pins on all the lower four edges for its easy removability. The co-driver side of the rear cabin comes with an outlet for refilling the 120-litre aluminium water tank integrated into the motorhome cabin.
The Bolero motorhome also has two 100 Ah auxiliary batteries, which draw a 12V DC power supply from the powertrain using a setup mounted below the outlet for water refilling.
The sides of the cabin also have two drainage outlets, one each for kitchen water and bathroom inside the motorhome cabin. Both driver and co-driver sides of the motorhome cabin have scooped-out storage cabinets and a special provision to hold the spare tyre under the motorhome cabin. The other exterior highlights of this motorhome include five amber lights on the front side of the hard-top motorhome cabin, 300W solar panels on the roof, and slide-and-drop aluminium folding stairs.
What is the Bolero Motorhome like on the inside?
It gets spacious cabin
The cabin mounted on the back of this customized Mahindra Bolero pickup looks quite cosy from the inside. It gets a lockable single-hinged door on its back. This cabin gets proper heat insulation with fire-retardant wires, a 230V AC/12V DC circuit breaker, and a digital solar control placed beneath the burner space in the kitchen side.
Step inside this heat-insulated cabin, and you get battery-operated lights, a well-sounding music system, and a roof-mounted 1-tonne cassette AC. For the accommodation of passengers, the upper portion of the cabin has a scooped out sleeping bed for two people, which measures 6 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 22-inches tall.
This sleeping bed has concealed windows on both sides. The lower part of the cabin has a seating arrangement for four people, which can be folded into a bed for additional two people.
And a fully functional kitchen
The kitchen bay of the cabin has sliding windows and comes with a sink with a cold and hot water supply, two top burners, a 12V DC compressor-based 38-litre fridge and drawers for storing a small cylinder and utensils in general. Despite space constraints, this motorhome also has a small bathroom, including a 21-litre portable toilet with a jet spray and a shower with both cold and hot water supplies.
There is no information on the price but these motorhomes can cost lakhs of rupees. You can contact the seller directly for the pricing and other details.
