The bike has been on display at a museum and is hence in pristine condition. It has NEVER been ridden before
Ask any die-hard motorcyclist and they’ll tell you that old-school race bikes are arguably a work of art. In fact, many people are always looking to buy such bikes and collect (sometimes ride, too) them for the sheer pleasure of it.
One such bike, a Yamaha TZ 500 production race bike, is being auctioned in the UK and it’s based on none other than Kenny Robert’s world championship-winning YZR500.
A Quick History Lesson
If you’re familiar with MotoGP, you must already know who Kenny Roberts is. And for those of you who don’t, Kenny Roberts is a three-time MotoGP world champion (500cc class) and one of the most popular American motorcycle racers in the world.
Kenny had such an extensive fan following in the early days that his second world title, which came in 1979, urged Yamaha to create a production race bike (a production model with race-spec parts) based on Kenny’s championship-winning YZR500 for private motorcycle racers.

The TZ 500 was stored in properly controlled conditions in museums of Italy and Britain
The TZ 500 in context here is one of these production race bikes. It is being auctioned off in the UK and it reads zero on the odometer. Yes, ZERO!
The bike has never been ridden to this day and before you question whether it even runs, the TZ 500 was stored in properly controlled conditions in museums of Italy and Britain.
It comes wrapped in Yamaha’s racing livery
As it has not been ridden, the bike barely has any blemishes or problems. The only one mentioned is two cracks near the seat. Else, everything else is as original and exclusive as it can get. Oh, and you also get modern slick tyres, which is really a plus rather than a problem.
Being a production race bike, the TZ500 flaunts elements like race fairings finished in Yamaha’s factory colours and four-into-four straight pipes for the engine, both making it illegal for the public roads.
The bike has never been ridden till date
Speaking of the engine, this is where the true beauty lies. The TZ500 is powered by a 497cc two-stroke, four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed gearbox. Yamaha claims the bike puts out nearly 110PS, which isn’t all too bad for a 500cc bike.
Additionally, if you’re a true old-school motorcycle fan, you’ll also appreciate the two-dial analogue instrument cluster, displaying only the temperature and tachometer.
What’s The Price?
