Another day, another Yamaha scooter we wish to see this one make it to our shores
Yamaha recently updated the X-max 250 for 2022 in Malaysia and now, the company has backed it up by introducing a new variant of its elder sibling, the X-max 300, in Thailand.
Called the 2022 Yamaha X-max 300 SP, this high-spec variant of the X-max 300 boasts some likable updates along with one very premium addition.
2022 Yamaha X-max 300 SP – What’s New?
Meet the latest premium scooter in Yamaha’s stable, the X-max 300 SP
Before getting right into it, let me tell you that SP is Yamaha’s moniker for a more premium (usually sportier) iteration of their product and that’s also the case here.
Like the other SP models we’ve seen from Yamaha, such as the new MT-10 SP, the X-max 300 also gets a special Power Grey paint scheme to match the special moniker.
This is basically a high-spec variant of the existing X-max and gets a special Power Grey livery to help it stand out
The scooter comes wrapped in a sinister glossy grey color livery topped off with sporty red accents and SP badges along with red alloy wheels. You also get a sportier seat with red stitching to keep things in line with the livery.
Another notable update comes to the features as the Yamaha X-max SP packs an updated semi-digital instrument cluster. This setup boasts a negative LCD unit, inspired by the Yamaha T-max, which is a step up from the standard LCD found on the normal X-max.
The key aspect here, though, are these fancy Ohlins shock absorbers which come standard on the X-max SP. Now, this is premium!
All these are welcome updates but the highlight of the SP variant is its rear suspension. This is because the X-max SP boasts fully adjustable twin shock absorbers from Ohlins which not only look smashing in gold but will also help the rider tweak the suspension to his/her liking.
Plus, Ohlins is offering a five-year warranty for these shockers, provided you send them to an Ohlins facility for timely servicing. Don’t worry, you’ll also get the stock shock absorbers with the X-max SP so your plans don’t get derailed when the Ohlins are out for service.
2022 Yamaha X-max 300 SP – Engine & Specifications
Thanks to the all this, the scooter costs quite a lot by Indian standards. Swipe up to know all about it.
These changes aside, the X-max 300 SP retains all of its standard bits and bobs. So it continues to draw power from a 292cc, single-cylinder engine belting out 27.6PS and 29Nm. Not that you’d need it, but the scooter gets traction control as standard to keep you right side up at all times.
Meanwhile, other features on the scooter include a smart key, a huge underseat storage, a 12V power socket, and all-LED lights.
Part of the livery are red alloy wheels which look quite sporty
The whole package tips the scale 179kg, which is quite hefty for a scooter. However, it’s worth noting that this weight also includes its fully filled 13-liter fuel tank.
2022 Yamaha X-max 300 SP Price
Yamaha has priced the X-max SP at 2,09,000 Thai Baht (Rs 4.76 lakh), 30,000 Thai Baht (Rs 68,000) more than the standard X-max 300. This is quite a lot by Indian standards but even if Yamaha launches the X-max here at this price, it’d still undercut the alarmingly pricey BMW C 400 GT.
At the moment, though, all we can do is be happy that Yamaha finally brought the Aerox 155 to India.
