With a topspeed of 25 kmph, you don’t need a license to ride this slow speed scoot
Electric mobility has well and truly set foot in India, and a large chunk of it is courtesy of electric scooters. And a key player in this segment is Hero Electric which, to establish itself further, has now launched the Eddy electric scooter here.
The Hero Electric Eddy isn’t a performance-oriented scooter and mainly focuses on catering to your local commuting needs. Yet, it offers a handful of features that make it a viable city scooter.
Hero Electric Eddy Design
In Hero Electric’s usual crop of scooters, the Eddy looks quite unconventional
Until now, Hero Electric has always stuck to conventional designs when it comes to electric scooters. The Eddy, though, does things a little differently.
With a large apron-mounted headlight (which looks like a wicked smile) and an exposed handlebar, the Hero Electric Eddy stands out from the company’s current crop of e-scooters. And before you ask, the front indicators are located above the bodywork and right below the naked handle.
The pillion backrest is also a nice and practical touch
Similarly, the tail end is quite squarish and comprises a rectangular LED light, again quite different from the other Hero Electric scooters. The rear is rounded off by a neat pillion backrest, which is a nice touch.
Overall, the Eddy looks quite unique, not entirely in a nice way, but it isn’t exactly meant to be a dazzling scooter, so I’ll let it go.
Hero Electric is offering the Eddy in two color options: Yellow and Blue.
Hero Electric Eddy Features
With a digital display, a USB port, all-LED lights, reverse gear, and Bluetooth connectivity, the Eddy is properly feature-packed
This is where the Hero Electric Eddy truly impresses, as it packs:
- USB charging
- Fully digital LCD instrument cluster
- Follow me home lights
- Bluetooth connectivity
- Reverse gear
- Front storage space
For a scooter meant strictly for local commuting, this feature list is more than adequate.
Hero Electric Eddy Battery, Power, & Underpinnings
Being a slow-speed scooter, the Eddy has a top speed of just 25kmph and a claimed range of 85km
The Hero Electric Eddy is powered by a puny 250W BLDC motor, which draws current from a 1.53kWh battery pack. Consequently, the scooter has a top speed of just 25kmph and a claimed range of 85km. Also, since there’s no fast charging tech here, it takes 4 to 5 hours to charge fully.
Thanks to these numbers, you don’t need a license to ride this little scoot around the city, making it perfect for commuting to gyms, grocery stores, or even Metro stations.
The scooter rolls on 12-inch alloy wheels clamped by drum brakes. For more details and prices, swipe to check out our story.
Like the output numbers, the scooter’s underpinnings are quite basic too. You get telescopic forks, twin shock absorbers, and 12-inch alloy wheels clamped by drum brakes.
Hero Electric Eddy Price & Rivals
Hero Electric has priced the Eddy at Rs 72,000 (ex-showroom). The company hasn’t mentioned whether this is with or without FAME-II subsidies and is yet to open bookings for the scooter.
The Hero Electric Eddy goes against other low-speed city scooters like the Ampere Reo Plus, BGauss A2, and the Detel Easy Plus.
