Mahindra and Mahindra began its car-making venture back in 1945. That is almost 76 years of producing cars. Mahindra has since remained a reigning champion when it comes to making robust SUVs. It’s all thanks to its robust powertrain and drivetrain. It’s built like a train and can take on any kind of terrain. So, it stands as a vehicle popular among off-road enthusiasts.
Today, the Thar is one of Mahindra's most capable off-roaders and the SUV is one of the most sought after by off-road aficionados and enthusiasts alike.
Moreover, in the past, we have seen it contend against many other SUVs proving its capacity. Many “tug of wars” have taken place wherein it has claimed victory. But we have not seen a battle between two Mahindra Thar’s yet. Until now. Like you guys, we too were curious to find out which Mahindra Thar is mightier! The petrol or the diesel?
So, to clear this pondering question YouTuber Akash Panchal came up with a tug of war, between a Thar Petrol and a Thar Diesel. Which one will claim victory? Well, let’s find out.
But before we begin, let us take a look at their power figures to see which one can potentially win this tug of war

It comes with a powerful mHawk Diesel 130 engine that can churn out 130bhp of power at 3750rpm and 300Nm of torque between 1600-2800rpm

Whereas, this one comes with a mStallion Petrol 150 TGDi engine that can churn out 150bhp at 5000rpm and 320Nm of torque between 1500-3000rpm
The Thar also comes with a mStallion 150 TGDi petrol Engine. This engine has the capacity to generate 150bhp at 5000rpm. It also produces 320Nm of torque between 1500-3000rpm.
Now when compared to the Thar Diesel, the Thar Petrol has better power figures. So, on paper, it seems like the petrol-powered Thar is the winner. Even so, let us see how those numbers translate into the real-world results.

With all the prep work done, it was time to test the power of the two titans. Round 1 takes place on mud rather than tarmac. Further, in round one, the two vehicles try their best to tug each other.
Surprisingly, both the vehicles fail to tug each other and so it’s declared as a tie between the two SUVs
But the two Thars engaged in 2WD mode, with the traction off fails to take the victory. It’s because neither of them manages to move an inch from their position. So it’s a tie for now.
Round 2
Surprisingly, between the two Thars that are engaged in 4WD mode with traction on, the Thar Petrol manages to tug the Thar diesel in round two, claiming victory
Round two was conducted on grass. This time the two Thars are engaged in 4WD mode with traction on.
Round 2
Round two is conducted on a different patch of land which has grass, so that the traction levels may differ
Surprisingly, the Mahindra Thar Petrol drags the Thar diesel like a piece of cake. So, the Thar Petrol takes victory in this round.
Round 3

Round three is conducted on the tarmac while the vehicles are engaged in 2WD with traction ON to see if it makes any difference in the result
Round Three was conducted on the tarmac to see if the Thar Petrol changes its behaviour. And Boy! you guys are in for a surprise.
This time, the Thar diesel does not allow the Thar petrol to win, meaning that the Thar diesel has claimed victory
The Thar diesel tugs the Thar Petrol like a breeze without any hesitance. And so, the Thar Diesel takes victory in this round of the tug of war battle.
