This fuel-efficiency test looks at the 1.0 TSIs refinement and how far can it go on a litre of petrol
After having a successful time with the Rapid, Skoda has bounced back in the premium compact sedan category with its replacement – the all-new Slavia. There are a lot of hopes riding on the new Slavia, as the car is succeeding the Skoda Rapid, which ranks as the highest in Skoda when it comes to sales numbers.
Among many expectations, there is one about fuel efficiency, and a YouTube video by “Amar Daryan” puts the same expectation for a test. The fuel efficiency test is of the 1.0-litre TSI with a manual transmission, which will form the major sales numbers for the model.
Overview
The Skoda Slavia used in the test was the 1.0-litre TSI manual version, which comes with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. This engine produces a maximum power of 115 PS and a peak torque capacity of 175 Nm. Skoda claims a fuel efficiency figure of 19.47 km/l for the 1.0-litre TSI manual version as per ARAI tests.

But, we know that the real-world fuel efficiency tests are a lot different as these are not done under standard conditions like ARAI. Read our review on the all-new Skoda Slavia 1.0 TSI automatic by clicking here.

They reset the trip meter
The video starts with filling the fuel tank of the Skoda Slavia to its brim at a fuel station. The Slavia offers a 45-litre fuel tank. At the end of the refuelling, the readings reveal that the fuel tank of the Slavia was filled to its brim with 41.56 litres of petrol.
After the refueling process, Slavia’s trip meter was set to zero. The Slavia was then driven extensively in mixed driving conditions including urban city traffic and long highway stretches. According to the video, he drove the Slavia 40 percent of the time in the urban city traffic and the rest 60 percent on the highways.
Initially, the presenter drives the Slavia in urban city traffic. The efficiency figures on the Multiple Information Display or MID were indicating much lower than what Skoda claims for the Slavia 1.0 TSI. However, the Slavia starts showing better fuel efficiency figures on its MID when the presenter starts driving on the highways. On long open highways, the fuel efficiency figure gradually increases. At one point in time, the MID showed the highest figure of 20.7 km/l.

After driving for 54 odd kilometres, the Slavia is driven to the same fuel station, where the fuel tank of the car is again re-filled to its brim. The readings on the fuel pump showed that the Slavia consumed 3.24 litres of fuel in the entire drive. This means the car consumed this amount of fuel for the whole drive.
What is the real-world fuel efficiency of Slaiva 1.0 TSI?
But will it return such high fuel efficiency in real life?
After dividing the distance driven by the amount of fuel consumed, the result shows that the Skoda Slavia returned a fuel economy of 16.66 km/l. Given the car was driven 40 percent of the time in urban city traffic conditions, we must say that the fuel efficiency of the Slavia is pretty impressive.
Turbocharged petrol cars offer better fuel efficiency on the highways and open roads. During the slow-moving city traffic, the turbochargers do not work at full efficiency, causing the mileage to drop.
