The Maxi Scooters, on the other hand, are far more sophisticated machines and are not just practical, but also offer a lot more style. Poor reliability didn’t help its case either and the Blaze was soon discontinued. Fast forward to today and the market finally seems to be warming up to the idea of a Maxi-Scooter.

Suzuki Burgman Street 125
Fast forward to today and the market has matured and the demand for Maxi-scooters is growing. The Suzuki Burgman Street 125 was one of the first ones to revive this segment
Styled after the Burgman range of maxi-scooters mostly approved in other parts of the world, Suzuki India introduced Burgman Street in 2019. The BS6 variant was introduced in 2020. The Suzuki Burgman Street is the most affordable Maxi-styled scooter in India currently.
The Suzuki Burgman Street 125 uses an all-aluminum, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, 124cc, FI engine that generates 8.7PS of peak power and 10Nm of peak torque. This is the same engine that does duty on the Suzuki Access 125. The powertrain is paired to a CVT transmission.
The updated BS6 Burgman Street features an engine kill switch and a Bluetooth-connected full digital instrument cluster.
The Suzuki Burgman Street features

The suspension duties of the Burgman Street 125 are taken care of by a telescopic unit at the front and a swing arm setup at the rear. It gets a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear profile to add to the stopping power.

Aprilia SXR 160
The Scooters found in India are comparatively lightweight, cheap to own and run. These scooters generally use a 100 to 150cc engine
The Aprilia SXR 160 was unveiled first at the 2020 Auto Expo. The SXR 160 employs the same BS6 160-cc single-cylinder engine that powers the SR 160 as well. This engine is tuned to make 11 hp of peak power and 11.6 Nm of torque on this Maxi-styled scooter. The SXR 160 offers a slightly longer wheelbase than the SR 160, and it gets smaller 12-inch wheels instead of 14-inch wheels.
Justifying the premium pricing, the SXR 160 gets
- A LCD instrument cluster that offers plenty of information. The rider can also opt for the Bluetooth mobile connectivity accessory.
- The SXR 160 offers decent under-seat storage, while there is a separate storage compartment on the front apron.
The SXR 160 relies on a telescopic front suspension and a single-sided suspension at the rear. The braking duties of the Maxi scooter are handled by a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. A single-channel ABS comes as standard with the scooter.
Aprilia SXR 125
The SXR 125 offers the same package as the SXR 160 but gets a smaller 125cc engine
The Aprilia SXR 125 share the same body and feature as its bigger sibling, the SXR 160. The only difference is that the SXR 125 uses the smaller 124.45 cc, Single Cylinder, 4 Stroke, Air-cooled, SOHC, three-valves engine.
This is the same unit that powers the SR 125 as well. The Aprilia SXR 125 delivers 9.52 PS of peak power at 7,600 rpm and 9.2 Nm of peak torque at 6,250 rpm. The engine is paired to a CVT transmission.
Yamaha Aerox
Yamaha too recently introduced the Aerox 155 in India recently that uses the same 155cc engine that powers the YZF-R15 V4
Yamaha Motors India forayed into the maxi-scooter segment with the Aerox 155.
The Aerox 155 features
- LED headlights in the front and a LED taillight.
- The Aerox 155 also gets a 5.8-inch LCD screen that displays plenty of information to the rider.
- There is a Bluetooth connect Y App available which showcases Phone notifications, last parked location, fuel consumption, malfunction notification, revs dashboard, maintenance recommendations, and ranking on the user’s Smartphone.
The Aerox 155 offers 24.5-liters of under-seat storage while the front compartment contains a charging socket.
Powering the Aerox 155 is a 155cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve motor equipped with VVA. The Aerox 155 powertrain produces about 15bhp of peak power at 8,000rpm and 13.9Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The engine is paired to a CVT Transmission.
The suspension duties are taken care of by telescopic forks at the front and dual pitch springs at the rear. A disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear take care of the braking duties. A single-channel ABS comes as standard.
BMW C400 GT
BMW Motorrad launched the C 400 GT in October 2021. The C 400 GT is currently the most powerful and the most expensive scooter in India.
Powering the BMW C 400 GT is a 350cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. The unit produces about 34 hp of peak power and 35 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to a CVT gearbox. The scooter has a top speed of 139 kph.
The BMW C 400 GT gets 15-inch wheels at the front and 14-inches at the rear. A single disc brake at the front and rear takes care of the braking duties. ABS, traction control, and rider modes come standard with the scooter.
