It VW took nearly six years to bring the production model of the VW ID.BUZZ to fruition, since it debuted as a concept back in 2017
Volkswagen officially calls it the Type 2 because the iconic first-generation was the Type 1 or Transporter. It was the first forward control light vehicle from the brand. The new VW ID.Buzz is the futuristic version of the classic VW bus, which has become an icon over the years. But the new ID.Buzz is a fully electric vehicle, which means it has become leaps better than the original underpowered bus.
After VW displayed the concept model of the ID.Buzz was back in 2017 at the NAIAS, the production version is finally here. The new Volkswagen ID.Buzz will be available for passengers as well as cargo. VW will start accepting the pre-orders from May and the deliveries are expected to begin by the end of this year. It is based on the VW MEB platform that also underpins a few VW electric cars.
VW ID.Buzz will be available in two versions
The new ID.Buzz will be available in two different styles. The standard passenger version will be called the ID.Buzz while the cargo version will be called the ID.Buzz Cargo.

The VW designers wanted to keep the old design in a new avatar. That is why you see a boxy shape and a two-paint shade. The VW ID.Buzz also gets short overhangs.
Volkswagen has smartly laid out the cabin as well. Inside, the new ID.Buzz gets an ergonomic driving position and a very uniquely styled cabin. The passenger version gets a captain’s chair-like feel with armrests. The high-mounted, minimalist dashboard also looks retro-inspired.
VW offers a 5.3-inch digital instrument display and a standard 10-inch infotainment touchscreen. There is an optional 12-inch screen available as well.
The new ID.Buzz is smaller than before
Storage spaces get priority in the VW ID.Buzz. There are compartments with hinges that can come out to hold two large drinks. There is a pod-like centre console and it also works as an ice scraper and bottle opener. VW calls it the Buzz box.
What powers the VW ID.Buzz?
The VW ID.Buzz will initially only offer a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive option. The power will come from a rear-mounted synchronous electric motor. The setup is similar to the other ID models. The electric motor produces a maximum power of 201 PS in the VW ID.Buzz
VW will add more powerful dual-motors and four-wheel drive options in the line-up in 2023. The ID.Buzz California camper van is also due and will make its debut in 2024.
The new ID.Buzz is smaller than before
The VW ID.Buzz gets a five-seat standard wheelbase version. However, at a later stage, the brand will bring in a seven-seat long-wheelbase variant as well. The van features conventionally hinged front doors and sliding doors for the rear, which can be operated electrically as well.
And it is available in two variants
Sadly, there are no plans for the VW ID.Buzz coming to India. But recently, VW unveiled the all-new Volkswagen Virtus, which will take on the sedans like Slavia, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna. What do you think about the new ID.Buzz? Do let us know in the comments below.
