More SUVs are coming to showrooms near you this summer with a long range EV and a hybrid sedan in the mix
The FY 2021-22 has come to an end, and with that starts a new inning for all the automakers for the next financial year. A few carmakers have lined up some noteworthy launches for April 2022, and a couple of them might be game-changers in the price segments in which they are arriving.
Here’s a brief look on what all the car launches scheduled to take place in April
Maruti Suzuki XL6
A slew of cars coming to the Indian market this month. Maruti Suzuki will update the XL6 and the Ertiga later this month
It is no surprise that Maruti Suzuki was working on a facelifted version of the XL6 for a few months. The updated Maruti Suzuki XL6 will come to showrooms towards the end of April and will feature a few visual tweaks, primarily on the outside. The spy pictures from recent days show that the new XL6 will get bigger 16-inch machined alloy wheels. Also, expect a few tweaks at the front and a few new features.
We will get to see mid-cycle updates
Maruti Suzuki will retain the current 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired with Smart Hybrid technology. The transmission choices on offer will be a new 6-speed automatic gearbox and the already-available 5-speed manual transmission.
Honda City Hybrid
Honda is bringing the City Hybrid, which will make it a segment-first product
Honda has already confirmed that the City Hybrid will come to India on the 14th of April. The new Honda City Hybrid will be a more premium variant, which will slot above the current top-spec ZX variant of the fifth-generation Honda City. Like the South-East Asian version of the City Hybrid, the India-spec City Hybrid might also come with blacked-out exterior highlights and interior as a part of the RS trim.
The City Hybrid is likely to become the most fuel-efficient car in the Indian market
The Honda City Hybrid will come with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated Atkinson petrol engine paired to an electric motor and battery. In addition to the petrol engine, which produces 98 PS of power and 127 Nm of torque, the electric motor further assists the powertrain with 108 PS of power and 253 Nm of torque. The Honda City Hybrid will be available in India only with a CVT gearbox.
Jeep Meridian
Jeep’s next big thing for the upper end of the mass-market category of SUVs in India is the three-row version of the Compass. Named Meridian for the Indian market, the new SUV will make its Indian debut in April. Compared to the Compass, the new Jeep Meridian gets a host of design upgrades on the outside and new dual-tone upholstery for the cabin.
Unlike the Compass, the new Jeep Meridian will be available solely with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, with the choices of a 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic transmissions. The automatic transmission version of the Meridian will also come with an optional four-wheel-drive system.
Tata Nexon EV long-range
While Tata will introduce a long range version of the Nexon EV
Tata is reportedly working on a long-range version of the highest-selling electric vehicle in India, the Nexon EV. While the Nexon EV has already impressed many Indians, the long-range version will only encourage more people to opt for electric vehicles.
While there will be no visual changes to the new Tata Nexon EV, the updated version will have additional features like an air purifier, auto-dimming inside the rearview mirror and ventilated front seats. The big change is the bigger battery pack under its floor pan. The new version will get a larger 40 kWh battery pack, which will offer a longer driving range of over 400 km in the WLTP cycle.
Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo

The Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo got recently spied in its full glory, and just like Rapid Monte Carlo from the past, the former will come with a host of sporty-looking visual tweaks over the regular version. The new Kushaq Monte Carlo will come with smoked headlamps, gloss-black finish for the front grille, fog lamp garnish, rearview mirrors, and roof and rear bumper corners. On the inside, it will have an all-black cabin with red highlights on the dashboard and seats.
The Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo will be available in the top-spec trims of both 1.0-litre TSI petrol and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine options. However, it is unclear whether it is reserved only for automatic versions or will come with both manual and automatic versions.
