1.5 Petrol Battle between a naturally-aspirated engine and turbo-power
Despite the arrival of newer offerings in the segment, the Honda City has always remained the top pick for comfort seekers and driving enthusiasts. But the new Skoda Slavia is challenging the City in every department. Can the new Slavia beat the good old City in a good old drag race?
The supremacy of Honda City finally finds a potent rival in the form of Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI. Not only does the Slavia offers equivalent space and comfort with a best-in-class wheelbase, but its 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine also posts better figures. The Contenders
The Honda City relies on the good-old naturally-aspirated tech for its 1.5-litre four-cylinder i-VTEC engine. The powerful naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre engine of Honda City produces 121 PS of power and 145 Nm of torque. The version used for the drag race here is the automatic ZX variant, which gets a CVT gearbox. The new Skoda Slavia puts out much higher numbers – 150 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of maximum torque from its 1.5-litre TSI four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.
Or the hotshot Skoda Slavia?
The Slavia used for the drag race here has a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (DSG) coupled to its engine, which makes it much more advanced than the CVT.

On the paper, the Slavia looks like a clear winner with its superior combination of a turbocharged petrol engine with a DCT gearbox. But the drag race rounds might surprise you a bit.

Honda City Vs Skoda Slavia Round 1
In the first round, the City has a better launch and starts well at a good pace. As the speeds rise to 80-90 km/h, the Slavia overtakes the City and ends up with a clear lead over the City. The drivers of both the cars take a U-turn and again drive towards the point from where they started. This time too, the results were the same.

In this round, the same story from round 1 repeats. The City again has a smooth and fuss-free start, but the Slavia overtakes and maintains a clear lead, which the City finds hard to beat till the finish line.
Conclusion
The Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI is untouchable in a drag race with any car in this segment. It has the most powerful engine and emerges as the clear winner at the end of this drag race. It is the only fully-imported engine available in this segment. However, there are a couple of things to note why it won despite having a slower start than the City.
The good old Honda City?
Compared to a naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a turbocharged petrol engine suffers from a turbo-lag at the start of the rev range. But it offers the peak power output slightly earlier at a lower RPM in comparison.
In addition to this reason, the 7-speed DCT of the Skoda Slavia uses two different clutches as compared to a belt-driven CVT with no clutch at the place. But the CVT gearbox of the City suffers from a slight rubber band effect and offers continuous and linear power delivery.
On the other hand, the DCT of the Slavia uses two clutches and offers minimum power loss between gear shifts. It results in faster shift times, which aid in overall performance and make it a quicker car.
