Lighter and more torquey Ather 450X or heavier, more powerful Avenger 220 — Which one are you betting on?
The Ather 450X is one of THE fastest accelerating scooters you can buy on the market right now. But is its fast acceleration enough to take down (or keep up) with a 220cc motorcycle?
Well, to answer this very question, YouTuber Pradeep On Wheels took matters into his own hands pitting the Ather 450X against a Bajaj Avenger 220 in a short but conclusive drag race.

The Contenders
Waving the EV flag in this race is the Ather 450X
Our first contender here is the trusted and proven e-scooter, the Ather 450X. It draws power from a permanent magnet motor with a peak output of 6kW and 26Nm, giving it a claimed 0-40kmph acceleration time of just 3.3 seconds. In addition, the 450X is quite lightweight too, tipping the scale at 108kg.
Meanwhile, on the ICE side, we have the Bajaj Avenger 220
Going against the Ather is Bajaj’s flagship cruiser, the Avenger 220, that’s powered by a 220cc, single-cylinder engine pumping out 19PS (14kW) and 17.55Nm. Being a full-sized bike, this weighs in at 163kg (wet), making it 55kg heavier than the e-scooter.
Ather 450X vs Bajaj Avenger 220 Drag Race
Now, this isn’t your ideal drag race with various rounds and rider swaps, instead, it’s just a fun little acceleration test between the two vastly different two-wheelers. With that out of the way, let’s get into it.
Both riders line up side by side and launch once the Avenger rider calls it. As you’d expect from a lighter, more torquey offering here, the Ather 450X jolts ahead and gets an early lead over the hefty Bajaj Avenger 220. The bike’s gear changes also contribute to this, while all the Ather rider does is twist the throttle without worrying about the redline.
Do you think the Avenger can catch up and win? Well, swipe up to find out if you’re right.
However, the Ather quickly starts edging closer to the scooter’s top-end of 85kmph and this is where the Avenger starts reeling it in.
Once past 70kmph, the Avenger eases past the Ather 450X, which doesn’t really come as a surprise, considering the bike tops out at a much higher speed of around 115kmph.
Conclusion
It makes 6kW and 26Nm from its permanent magnet motor and can accelerate from zero to 40kmph in under 3.5 seconds
This was yet another proof of the Ather 450X’s impressive acceleration and that it’s easily one of the best EVs for quick city overtakes. However, it’s still no match for similarly priced ICE motorcycles when it comes to outright performance.
