These e-Scooters made it to our Top 10 list for reason, here’s why
In the past couple of years, the popularity of electric vehicles has risen to an all-time high. And in a price-sensitive market like ours, the most popular kind of EVs are electric scooters, thanks to their low living and running costs along with a much more affordable price tag than electric cars.
But with so many brands springing into action, it gets quite hard to make up your mind and select one scooter that caters to all your needs. Facing the exact same problem? Well, lucky for you, we’ve stacked up India’s top 10 electric scooters that you can consider in 2022.
Ola S1
Looking to buy an electric scooter? Well, here are India’s top 10 e-scooters. And the first one is the popular Ola S1
You must be living under a rock if you’ve not heard of Ola Electric’s S1 e-scooter. Launched last year, the Ola S1 gets a futuristic, flowing design inspired by the international Etergo Appscooter.
It comes in two variants, S1 and S1 Pro, priced at Rs 99,999 and Rs 1,29,999 (ex-showroom, FAME-II subsidy included). Both scooters use a 5.5kW motor, pumping out 8.5kW and 58Nm, which are class-leading numbers on paper. Additionally, the e-scooter gets features like remote lock/unlock, phone connectivity with navigation, a “limp home” mode (when the scooters are low on juice), reverse mode, and Take Me Home lights as standard, all of which make it one of the best electric scooters in the country.
You will have to wait a little while to get your hands on one, though, as Ola Electric is yet to announce the date of the next booking window.
Ather 450X
While Ola’s buying window is yet to open, another great, readily-available option is the Ather 450X
The Ather 450X was India’s first premium e-scooter and it still remains relevant in today’s times. And unlike the Ola, this one gets a radical design, something youngsters will surely appreciate.
The Ather 450X draws power from a PMSM motor belting out 6kW of peak power and 26Nm. Additionally, the scooter claims a real-world range of around 90km. Meanwhile, features on the Ather 450X include a TFT instrument cluster, phone connectivity, a reverse gear, and over-the-air updates.
The Ather 450X is one of the most expensive scooters here, though, retailing at Rs 1,47,030 (ex-showroom, FAME-II subsidy included).
TVS iQube Electric
TVS’ iQube Electric has been in the market for a while and still remains a relevant option today
The TVS iQube Electric was one of the first Indigenous EVs in the country. It doesn’t really show its age, though, and remains a good city e-scooter even against newer rivals. The iQube Electric currently costs Rs 1,00,777 (ex-showroom Delhi, including FAME-II subsidy).
Powered by a 4.4kW electric hub motor, the TVS iQube Electric is capable of propelling itself from 0 to 40kmph in 4.2 seconds. The motor is mated to a 2.25kWh lithium-ion battery which is good enough for 75km of range.
Additionally, you get all-LED lighting, riding modes, an underseat light, and a USB charging socket, all topped off by a digital TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity.
Bajaj Chetak
The Bajaj Chetak is another excellent electric scooter you can check out
Bajaj resurrected its iconic Chetak moniker in 2020 by introducing the Chetak e-scooter. It comes in two variants, Urbane and Premium, priced at Rs 1,42,620 and Rs 1,44,000 (ex-showroom, excluding FAME-II subsidy). Sadly, the scooter isn’t on sale currently, but Bajaj will open the booking window soon.
The Chetak boasts a likeable retro design along with features like an LCD instrument cluster, smartphone connectivity, geo-tagging, geo-fencing, and even turn-by-turn navigation.
Meanwhile, it is powered by a 3.08kW motor mated to a 3kWh battery. Bajaj claims the Chetak can return a maximum range of 95km.
Simple Energy One
In number four, we have the Simple Energy One which is the fastest e-scooter in India (on paper)
Simple Energy launched its One electric scooter last year, on the same day as the Ola S1. However, its onslaught faded away and the company is yet to start delivering the scooter.
Nevertheless, the Simple One is quite promising on paper and gets features like on-board navigation, call/music control, geofencing and even a tyre pressure monitoring system, all accessible via 7-inch touchscreen display.
As for specs, you get a 4.5kW motor along with a two-battery setup, one of which is removable. The claimed range and zero to 40kmph acceleration time is 203km and 2.95 seconds, both super impressive but yet to be tested in the real-world.
Simple has priced the scooter at Rs 1,09,999 (ex-showroom).
Hero Electric Optima
Looking for something on a budget? Well, look no further than the trusted Hero Electric Optima
This is one of THE most value-for-money electric scooters for city riding. Priced at just Rs 67,440 (ex-showroom Delhi), the Hero Electric Optima undercuts many ICE offerings and hence, sells in decent numbers.
It puts out 1.2kW and has a 1.5kWh battery, giving it a claimed top speed and range of 42kmph and 122km (for the dual-battery variant). Being a barebones scooter, it only gets a LED headlight, remote lock/unlock, a USB charging port, and a basic LCD instrument cluster, which is quite sufficient given its price.
Hero Electric Photon
Even the Hero Electric Photon is an excellent pick
Another popular e-scooter by Hero Electric is the Photon and it was even a part of 2022’s Republic Day parade.
The Hero Electric Photon is priced at Rs 74,240 (ex-showroom Delhi, FAME-II subsidy included) and justifies the moolah with an LED headlight, a digital instrument cluster, a remote lock, and a portable battery pack. However, it misses out on disc brakes, which is a bummer.
The Photon has a claimed range and top speed of 108km and 45kmph, respectively, making it a strict city scooter.
Bounce Infinity E1
However, nothing is as affordable as the Bounce Infinity E1, which can be bought without its batteries
Another e-scooter launched in 2021 was the Bounce Infinity E1 and it is the only EV in India which can be bought without batteries. Yes, Bounce has introduced a battery rental programme for the E1, which brings down the initial buying cost to just Rs 45,099 (including FAME-II subsidies). Meanwhile, the scooter costs Rs 68,999 with the batteries.
The Bounce E1 draws power from a 1.5kW motor coupled with a 2kWh battery. It has a claimed top speed and range of 65kmph and 85km, respectively. Meanwhile, the features on offer are quite basic and include LED illumination, a basic LCD instrument cluster, and smartphone connectivity.
Okinawa iPraise+
Last but not least, we have the Okinawa iPraise+, a trusted e-cooter with decent features. For prices, features, and specs of all these scooters, simply swipe up!
The Okinawa iPraise+ is the company’s flagship high-speed scooter, priced at Rs 1,05,990 (ex-showroom).
It is powered by a 2.5kW (peak) motor and claims a top speed of 58kmph. The motor is coupled to a 3.3kW detachable battery which offers 139km of range.
Okinawa has equipped the iPraise+ with features like LED lighting, smartphone connectivity, digital instrument cluster, and disc brakes at both ends.
Gravton Quanta
And for the people who need a LOONG range, the Gravton Quanta is right on the money with its 320km claimed range
If range anxiety is your main concern, the Gravton Quanta is the perfect EV for you. When opted with the dual-battery setup, Gravton claims the Quanta can offer a massive 320km of range. In fact, to prove the Quanta’s mettle, Gravton recently took it from Kanyakumari to Ladakh in a record time without any recharging stops!
The Quanta is priced at Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom) and can be booked for just Rs 499 via the company’s website. And the moolah is well-justified by its feature list, comprising LED lights, a digital instrument cluster, swappable batteries, and ride modes.
