With a powerful engine and an abundance of features, the XMax 250 is perfect follow-up for the Aerox 155
Yamaha’s Malaysian division, Hong Leong Yamaha has launched the 2022 XMax 250 in Malaysia with a few subtle updates. And now that Yamaha has brought the Aerox 155 to India, we think it should also bring the XMax 250 here as a follow-up for it.
Let’s take a look at it.
2022 Yamaha XMax 250 Design
The XMax 250, like the Aerox 155, is a striking scooter to look at. Bearing a typical maxi-scooter design, the XMax 250 boasts a tall adjustable windscreen, brawny side panels, and sleek apron-mounted indicators.
While the design is exactly like the older model, Yamaha has introduced two new colors for the XMax 250 this year, namely Icon Grey and Power Grey.
As much as we like the XMax 250, its chances of coming to India are slim. Swipe up to know why.
The former wraps the maxi-scooter in a bright grey (almost white) shade and features bright blue alloy wheels, which make it look quite sporty. Meanwhile, the latter takes a subtle approach, featuring darker grey bodywork along with graphite alloy wheels.
Along with the new colors, the scooter now gets smoked lenses for the headlight and indicators.
2022 Yamaha XMax 250 Features
Apart from the colors, the scooter retains its features comprising an LCD instrument cluster, ABS, and LED lights
The XMax 250, being a maxi-scooter, is quite ripe with features. From basics like an LCD instrument cluster and LED lights to more premium things like keyless ignition, ABS, and a 12V port, the scooter packs everything you’d expect it to.
And to take things up a notch, Yamaha has also equipped it with a traction control system and huge under-seat storage (capable of holding two helmets).
You also get keyless ignition and a cubby storage space with an integrated USB port
Further, both the handlebar and windscreen are adjustable, thus making the XMax 250 suitable for various types of riders. This is also aided by a decently low seat height of 795mm, even though its curb weight (179kg) is rather hefty for a scooter.
2022 Yamaha XMax 250 Engine & Underpinnings
Between the two colors, the Icon Grey takes the cake with its sporty blue alloy wheels and bright bodywork
As the scooter remains mechanically unchanged for 2022, the XMax 250 continues to put out 22.5PS and 24.3Nm drawn from its Euro 4-compliant 250cc heart. The engine features Yamaha’s Blue core tech to boost efficiency which, coupled to the big 13-liter fuel tank, should give the XMax 250 a solid range.
No mechanical changes have been introduced and the scooter still makes a respectable 22.5PS and 24.3Nm
Coming to the underpinnings, the XMax 250 employs telescopic forks at the front (with 110mm travel) and a monoshock at the rear (with 79mm travel). Meanwhile, the 15-inch front wheel comes clamped by a 267mm disc while the 14-inch rear wheel gets a smaller 245mm disc, both working in conjunction via ABS.
2022 Yamaha XMax 250 Pricing
Yamaha has launched the 2022 XMax 250 in Malaysia. And it’s the perfect follow-up scooter after the Aerox’ launch in India
Thanks to the updates, Yamaha has bumped the price of the XMax 250 to Rs 3.98 lakh from Rs 3.89 lakh in Malaysia. While this isn’t all that bad in Malaysia, this is a big price tag from an Indian context.
However, the XMax 250 is mainly targeted at Southeast Asian markets and even fails to meet Euro 5/BS6 norms, meaning its chances of coming to India are bleak.
Looks like we’ll just have to make-do with the Yamaha Aerox 155, at least for now.
