Spoke wheels aside, there are a couple of other things that this test mule does differently compared to the 390 Adventure
KTM is working hard on its future plans and the updated 390 Duke, RC 890, and the 890 Adventure S have all been already spotted testing.
And now, another new KTM bike has been spied testing which seems like a more off-road specific KTM 390 Adventure (or KTM 390 Enduro, if we may).
Why Does It Make Sense?
All this aside, the 390 Enduro will use the same 373cc, single-cylinder engine as the 390 Adventure. Want to know when it’ll come to India? Well, swipe up for the answer.
In the long list of entry-level ADVs, the KTM 390 Adventure, since its launch, has become a globally renowned option, thanks to its powerful motor, class-leading features, and excellent tractability. However, it still isn’t a hardcore off-road motorcycle and has a few setbacks (like the lack of spoke wheels) preventing it to become one.
There’s a simple solution to this – the introduction of a new, more purpose-built motorcycle based on the already-lauded 390 Adventure platform. And this is exactly what KTM seems to be doing here.
With that out of the way, let’s come to the bike.
What’s Different?
The KTM 390 Enduro does a few things differently than the 390 Adventure, with the wheels being the most easy-to-notice change.
The test mule here uses proper spoke wheels and block tyres in comparison to the 390 Adventure’s alloy wheels and dual-purpose rubber. Along with this, unlike the 390 Adventure, this one rolls on a bigger 21-inch rim, which is considered a must for serious off-roading. Meanwhile, a tall, large mudguard and a flat single-piece seat complement the bigger front wheel.
Not to forget, the larger wheel and block tyres should also boost the bike’s ground clearance.
Since this is an early test mule, there’s barely any bodywork. However, the tail light and the seat are both sleeker than the 390 Adventure
Next, KTM seems to be using a completely new swingarm on the 390 Enduro test mule. This one seems to be of a CNC construction and should be sturdier than KTM’s usual diamond-patterned swingarm doing duty on the 390 ADV.
In addition to the swingarm, the 390 Enduro also packs revised, more massy engine braces and a different bash plate.
Coming to design changes, the 390 Enduro looks a lot slimmer than the 390 Adventure and gets a smaller LED tail light. However, this is an early prototype that is missing a lot of bodywork, so we wouldn’t make any conclusions on the styling just yet.
What’s The Same?
Even the engine braces are more massy here and so is the engine protection
Apart from these changes, the 390 Enduro will essentially be a 390 Adventure underneath. And this is backed by the spy shots which show the same 373cc, single-cylinder engine housed in the same trellis frame.
Even the suspension setup is identical to the 390 Adventure’s with WP USD forks up front and a WP mono-shock at the rear.
Also clearly visible here is the same TFT instrument cluster, expected to pack the same features like switchable ABS, quick-shifter, cornering ABS, and smartphone connectivity as the 390 ADV.
KTM 390 Enduro Launch Timeline
KTM’s off-road-oriented version of the 390 Adventure has been spied testing overseas by VisorDown
Judging from the spy shots and components, KTM is clearly in its early testing phase with the 390 Enduro. Owing to this, the bike will probably only be ready by end of this year or early next year.
Once introduced, KTM is expected to launch the bike in India soon after, at a higher price tag than the KTM 390 Adventure.
In related news, KTM is gearing to launch the 2022 390 Adventure in India soon as the bike has already started reaching dealerships.
