How is Tata Altroz DCA different?
There are no changes in the car otherwise
Tata claims that the DCA offered by them is the most advanced sophisticated dual-clutch transmission available in the market. It is made specifically for India. Since the country offers various terrains across the country, the new dual-clutch transmission works differently.
The DCA gets a planetary system, which makes it the first dual-clutch transmission in the world to use the system. The new transmission gets 1 layshaft, which can be up to 2 or 3 in different dual-clutch transmissions. The Altroz DCA also gets 13 gears with the Planetary Gear System whereas other conventional DCTs use about 20 gears’. Tata says that there are 35% fewer components than a conventional DCT. The lower number of components allows better shifts and fewer moving parts.
Tata claims it to be the most advanced and sophisticated DCT
The new DCA transmission also gets wet clutches that are separated. It ensures better cooling. Most DCTs use dry clutches.
The Altroz DCA clutch also gets an active cooling system. The Transmission Control Unit (TCU) monitors the temperature of the transmission more than 100 times per second. If it notices that the transmission is heating up, it sends oil to cool down the transmission unit.
It uses two wet clutch
The new Altroz DCA also claims to be very smooth to drive. It only takes 250 milliseconds to shift with the shift-by-wire technology. The new Dual-clutch transmission uses in-house software and machine learning. The proprietary software also learns driving patterns and shifts the transmission to suit the driving style. It can learn the different driving patterns of different drivers who regularly use the car.
It also gets an auto park lock, which automatically engages the park mode. If the car senses that there is no one in the driver’s seat, the door is open and the engine is on, it automatically puts the car in park mode.
Tata only offers the DCA with the naturally-aspirated engine
Tata uses advanced self-healing technology to keep the dust-out. The valves can detect dust particles and vibrate to remove the dust.
Only available with naturally-aspirated petrol
Tata has introduced the Altroz dual-clutch automatic two years after the model first debuted
The new DCA is available only with the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. It produces a maximum power of 86 PS and a peak torque of 113 Nm. Tata was expected to bring the 1.2-litre turbocharged engine with the dual-clutch automatic. However, that would have increased the price of the vehicle by quite much. That is why Tata is only using the naturally-aspirated engine with the Altroz.
The vehicle gets the same features as the standard manual versions. There is no change in the features list and the way it looks. Tata has introduced a new colour Opera Blue, which will be available with the manual variants as well.
