What is different on the 1.5-litre TSI?
The 1.5-litre TSI engine of the Slavia is an advanced engine with unique features that no other brand offers in the market yet. It gets cylinder deactivation technology. The system works by sensing the power requirement of the vehicle and then deactivates two cylinders of the engine to offer a much more fuel-efficient experience.
The engine produces a maximum power of 150 PS and a peak torque of 250 Nm. It is available with a six-speed manual transmission or a 7-sped DSG automatic transmission. We only drove the DSG automatic version and that is why we will only talk about that powertrain.
Is the Slavia 1.5 TSI different to drive?
Yes, very much. The power from the 1.5-litre engine is instant and it pushes the Slavia ahead. The 7-speed transmission means that there is a wide range of gear ratios available and smooth transition between the gears means that there is no feeling of turbo lag in the car.
The engine is also heavier so Skoda has slightly tweaked the suspension and dampers. But it is not as agile as the Slavia 1.0 TSI. We also found the steering feedback of the Slavia 1.0 TSI slightly better than the 1.5 TSI.
It gets the same 16-inch alloy wheels so most of the handling and driving dynamics remain the same. Entering the corners with the 1.5 TSI is similar to the 1.0 TSI. You need to slow down considerably to feel safe while entering a corner. You cannot attack the corners with the Slavia. Instead, you can ease into them. The disc brake at the front and the drum brake at the rears work very well to slow down the Slavia.
And it offers the same alloy wheels and rim size as well
Skoda has not revealed the acceleration figures but it should be the quickest car in the segment. It returns a maximum fuel efficiency of 18.41 km/l, making it quite fuel-efficient as well.
Which engine option should you choose?
SWIPE UP to know which engine should you choose and more details on the Slavia.
As we said in the first-drive review of the Slavia 1.0-litre, you should choose the smaller engine if you do not plan to be on the highways every other week. The 1.0-litre engine works well on the highways as well but you may feel high-speed overtaking to be challenging.
The 1.5-litre engine is very sophisticated. It is a gem of an engine. It is a perfect choice for the customers who love to be on the highways and want a good amount of power on reserve to make those smooth overtakes. However, if you want to drive the car as much inside the city limits, it will be wiser to choose the automatic to get the extra gear ratio for smoother drives in slow-moving traffic.
