Pokemon GO Fest 2020 will be taking place virtually this July. Here's what we know so far about the upcoming two-day event.
Pokemon GO is one of the biggest mobile games in recent memory, and every year fans get together to celebrate the beloved game and catch Pokemon. With COVID-19 putting the world on standstill for the past few months and foreseeable future, it was unclear what that would mean for the 2020 celebration. However, Niantic has announced the official dates for the Pokemon GO Fest 2020. Here’s what we know.
When Is the Pokemon GO Fest 2020?
The Pokemon GO Fest 2020 will be taking place July 25 and 26 in a virtual format, according to Niantic. The two-day event has been completely “reimagined” to offer an “entirely global event.” This means that no matter where you are in the world, you can participate in the 2020 festival from the comfort of your own home.
It’s still unclear how everything is going to work, but Niantic is promising more information in the coming weeks. However, developers did share that the festival would be filled with a “weekend of bonuses, Pokemon encounters, and Special Research.” Further, there will be “exciting” ways for Trainers from around the world to connect with one another.

Of course, Niantic is also teasing a couple of other “fun surprises” that haven’t been announced yet. In 2019, the two-day festival took place in Chicago, Dortmund, and Yokohama and was essentially the same experience both days. This time around, ticket holders will be invited to both days of the virtual event, indicating that both days could be different. However, daily schedules and ticket details have not been announced at the time of writing, this includes details on pricing and number of tickets.
While players wait for more information on the Pokemon GO Fest 2020, they can begin preparing for the Weedle June 2020 Community Day. The event will take place on June 20 and will be a time for players to attempt to evolve their Weedle into a Beedrill to gain access to the exclusive Drill Run move.
Players can also look forward to the special Throwback Challenge Champion 2020 Special Research event which will be offered to Trainers who complete four sets of Special Research during various Throwback Challenges throughout the month of June. So there should be plenty to keep players busy while they wait for the Pokemon Go Fest 2020 celebration.
