As numerous events from the past two years have shown us, gaming can often be a noble and unifying force when it really needs to be, and its community an immensely powerful agent of change. From raising awareness about social issues like workplace abuse or generating support for charitable initiatives, it's really inspiring to see how much of a difference we can make utilising our shared passion for video games.
Still, perhaps the most humbling fact about charity is that there is no prerequisite to help others, and that's why we should all lend a helping hand by tuning in to the Charity Valorant Gaming Tournament that will be streamed on Wish Day, 18 Dec. Believe it or not, this tournament was actually proposed by a 16-year-old cancer survivor named Jovan to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Singapore and the Children's Cancer Foundation, which is also why the tournament banner proudly bears his name.
Of course, many companies have since come forward to help support and make this charity tournament a success. Valorant's developer Riot Games and gaming chair specialist Secretlab will be sponsoring prizes for the tournament and lucky draw. The latter has also offered its own Esports Arena as the competition venue, with TheGym in charge of running the event.
As for the tournament itself, Jovan, himself an online gaming enthusiast, will team up with four other players of his choosing and compete for the top spot against local Valorant Twitch streamers and talents from Titan Digital Media. In addition, the former will also be granted special “Superpowers” during this event, which will not only allow him to select the maps and positions that will be used, but also the powers of the Agents that his team will be playing against.
Naturally, you'll be able to catch all of this on the live Twitch stream organised by The Gym, and we heartily invite you to donate to these charities too if you can. After all, not only are such heartwarming initiatives something that we as a community should strive to encourage more of, but you'll also have the chance to snag official Valorant merchandise and a Secretlab gaming chair if you donate upwards of $5.
Nevertheless, at the end of the day, it isn't really about the prizes nor who wins or loses the tournament. In such situations, it's the thought that really counts, so do tune in and show your support!
