Naughty Dog’s two PS4 Uncharted titles have made their way to the PS5 in one convenient package, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. Bringing both adventures to the PS5, the games have been given a bunch of new features and improvements that only the power and feature set of Sony’s latest system could deliver. So, without further ado, let’s run you through the 5 improvements you can expect to find in Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
DualSense Haptic Support

One of the most impressive improvements the DualSense made over its predecessor was the far more accurate and punchy haptic feedback over the old rumble vibration motors found in the DualShock controllers.
The Legacy of Thieves Collection makes the most of the haptics in the controller, providing stronger feedback to actions that play out on screen. A big wave crashing into your boat? You’ll feel that turbulence in the controller. Slam into a cliff-face when using the grappling hook, you’ll feel it. And there’s even subtle uses of it elsewhere throughout your adventure, even gentle tapping as you scroll through the pause menu options.
The haptics are one of these features that are easy to forget about until they poke and prod the controller to life at the most opportune moments.
Faster Load Times

With the new generation of consoles, players have realized just how much time we all collectively spent waiting for games to load. Even the wizards at Naughty Dog couldn’t find a way to cut down load times into their wondrous worlds on PS4 to just a matter of seconds.
Well, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection makes use of your PS5’s super-speed SSD to load into both games in literal seconds. It’s all rather impressive and makes for a more seamless experience from chapter-to-chapter as you’re playing, too. The action never stops, so put your phone down, you don’t have time to Twitter scroll when you’re on the trail of Avery’s treasure.
Adaptive Triggers

One of the most talked about DualSense features was its adaptive triggers. They were touted as offering a new level of immersion when the PS5 was first released, allowing players to feel the resistance when drawing their bow in-game, or to feel the kickback of a shot fired with a pistol. Since its release, the feature has made its way into countless titles including Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Call of Duty to name a few.
It returns in Legacy of Thieves Collection, too. Whether you’re driving around the overworld in The Lost Legacy in the 4×4, or firing off rounds as Nate in some ancient ruins, the adaptive triggers will make sure you know about it. The right trigger kicks and rattles under your finger with every shot fired, while both triggers add a little resistance to your presses of the accelerator and brake when driving.
Should adaptive triggers not be your cup of tea, you’re free to disable them in the menus, too.
3D Audio

The enhancements aren’t limited to just prettier visuals and some controller upgrades in Legacy of Thieves Collection, though. There’s also been some work done on the audio side in order to make use of the 3D Audio functionality of the PS5.
When used with compatible TV speakers or headset, 3D Audio brings the world of Uncharted to life, allowing you to hear the crashing of waves to Nate’s right in your right ear, while the wind howls in your left. You’ll hear the screams and shouts of enemies and their gunfire as you engage in skirmishes in imposing hallways, and explosions sound more realistic as they bounce and echo off the environment.
If you’re looking for the most immersive experience possible, we highly recommend grabbing a pair of compatible headphones and using them for the duration of your time in both games in the collection. It truly takes things to the next level.
Various ‘Rendering’ Modes

There are three ‘Rendering’ modes that players can choose from in Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection — Fidelity, Performance and Performance+.
The first of these offers up a native 4K resolution and displays the game at 30fps. This gives the sharpest image with plenty of detail in everything from stunning panoramic views right down to the detailed veins running through the leaves of plants and trees in dense jungles.
Performance balances resolution with framerate, offering a 1440p base resolution at 60fps. This feels like the most ‘next-gen’ feeling mode out of the three, as you get the stunning detail of Fidelity with the fluidity of 60fps, which in our opinion, is what makes so many AAA titles on PS5 and Series X|S feel ‘next-gen’… or current-gen, you know what I mean.
Finally, for framerate aficianados, there’s Performance+ which drops the resolution down to 1080p to target 120fps framerate. This is incredibly smooth and satisfying, but doesn’t look anywhere near as sharp as a result of the HD resolution.
Still, the three options ensures that you can channel your PS5’s horsepower into a display mode that suits your preferences. Plus, we’re always going to be fans of 120fps, even if the compromises are pretty noticeable.
