Tata Motors launched the Tata Altroz iCNG premium hatchback in India at Rs 7.55 lakh (ex-showroom). It is also the first CNG hatchback to be offered with an electric sunroof.
At present, Tata Altroz iCNG is offered in 6 variants – XE, XM+, XM+ (S), XZ, XZ+ (S), and XZ+ O (S). Out of these, the XE is the base variant, whereas the XZ+ O (S) is the top-spec variant and this variant is priced at Rs 10.55 lakh (ex-showroom).
The biggest talking point about the Tata Altroz iCNG hatchback has been its twin-cylinder technology, which uses two 30-litre CNG tanks to free up more useable space in the boot.
Altroz iCNG | Introductory Price |
XE | ₹755400 |
XM+ | ₹840400 |
XM+ (S) | ₹884900 |
XZ | ₹952900 |
XZ+ (S) | ₹1002990 |
XZ+O (S) | ₹1054990 |
Thanks to this technology, the Tata Altroz iCNG hatchback comes with a usable 210-litre boot. In comparison, the boot space in the standard Altroz hatchback is just 135 litres more at 345 litres.
In terms of powertrain, the Tata Altroz iCNG is powered by a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, CNG-compatible engine. This engine puts out 72.5bhp of power and 103Nm of torque in CNG mode.
However, in petrol mode, this engine puts out a much healthier 85bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque. Also, the sole transmission on offer is a tried-and-tested 5-speed manual gearbox.
In terms of features, the Tata Altroz iCNG continues to be offered with the same features as the standard model. This includes features such as a 7.0-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a voice-activated sunroof, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, electrically adjustable ORVMs, reversing camera, and more.
Also, the Tata Altroz is the only hatchback in India to score a 5-star safety rating at the Global NCAP crash testing. Other than this, the Tata Altroz iCNG is equipped with safety systems such as dual airbags, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX points, rear parking sensors and more.
Thoughts About The Tata Altroz iCNG
With an aggressive starting price, 6 variants, and an option for an electric sunroof, the newly launched Tata Altroz iCNG is looking forward to make CNG vehicles more mainstream. We expect this move to have a positive effect on the sales of the hatchback and overall sales volume as well.
Also, thanks to its twin-cylinder technology the boot of the newly launched Tata Altroz iCNG hatchback seems to be more practical than CNG variants of most sub-4m sedans in India.
