The Porsche 992 generation has ushered in a new standard for modern-day sports cars and has further elevated the perceived standing of the Stuttgart firm. Within the 992-generation of Porsche’s fleet, the GT3 and fiercer GT3 RS counterpart have showcased cutting-edge technology and innovations. In this video published by sport auto on YouTube, this euro car showdown at Hockenheim is a showcase of the 2022 992 (911) GT3’s prowess and the M4 CSL’s power.
Powering the GT3 is a 4,0-litre flat six providing all four wheels with 375 kW and 470 N.m. Despite being the tamer product in the latest-gen 911 stables, the GT3 is at the bleeding edge of road going modern sports cars. Power, handling, and character akin to that of a GT3 race car, one of the latest offerings display the prestige and quality synonymous with the firm’s name.
As for BMW, its recent introduction of the G8X generation has shaken and stirred the larger automotive community. Despite the controversy surrounding the generation’s appearance, the twin-turbo S58, chassis innovations, driving experience, and overall performance has been greatly enhanced from the last F8X generation. The standard G82 M4 is a standout amongst high-performance sports cars under R2,5 million, but the CSL variant – which will only see 1000 examples produced – is an even greater refinement of the M4’s DNA. With 405 kW supplied by the rowdier S58, the M4 CSL possesses more power, but – despite undergoing extensive weight saving – weighs a considerable amount more (1 615 kg) than the GT3 (1435 kg). The M4 CSL is geared towards full-tilt track driving but has BMW done enough for the CSL to go head-to-head with one of Stuttgart’s finest cars of the modern age?
On the Nürburgring, M4 CSL secured a record-setting time of 7 minutes and 20 seconds. The Porsche GT3 ran around the ring in 6 minutes and 59 seconds… that’s a hell of a lot quicker. Now a proper showdown. One driver and two high-performance cars. Will the M4 CSL’s improvements provide enough to conquer the thoroughbred 911 at Hockenheim? Watch the video linked below.
