Tata Motors recently released the teaser of its upcoming Tata Altroz CNG hatchback and according to the teaser, we expect the Indian automaker to launch the CNG version of the Altroz hatchback tomorrow in India.
What’s interesting about the upcoming Tata Altroz CNG hatchback is its “Twin Cylinder CNG Technology” which promises to free up more space in the boot, which in a way always has been the Achilles heel for CNG hatchbacks around the globe.
In fact, Tata Motors surprised everyone at the Auto Expo 2023 by showcasing the Altorz CNG with a massive boot. In order to accomplish this, Tata Motors used two 30-litre CNG tanks instead of one massive tank. This allowed the company to liberate more of the usable space in the boot.
That being said, the upcoming Tata Altroz CNG is expected to come with the same 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, CNG-compatible engine from the Tata Tiago iCNG and Tata Tigor iCNG. This engine in the above-mentioned models produces 73bhp of power and 95Nm of torque while running on CNG.
However, in petrol mode, this engine is tuned to put out a more respectable 84.82bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque. Furthermore, we expect the Tata Altroz CNG to come equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
Speaking about the Tata Altroz, the premium hatchback is one of the safest hatchbacks you can buy in the country and sports a 5-Star safety rating from Global-NCAP. Other than this, the Tata Altroz also comes with safety systems such as multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX points, and more.
In terms of pricing, we expect the upcoming Tata Altroz iCNG to be priced around Rs 1 lakh more expensive than the standard variant of the premium hatchback with a starting price of around Rs 7.45 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
In comparison, prices for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG starts from Rs 8.35 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and goes all the way up to Rs 9.28 lakh (ex-showroom, India). However, it is also worth mentioning that the Baleno CNG is not available in the base ‘Sigma’ and top-spec ‘Alpha’ variants.
Thoughts About The Tata Altroz CNG
Tata Altroz is one of the safest hatchbacks currently available in the country and if the company decides to launch the model with its “Twin Cylinder Technology”, we expect the model to become an attractive proposition for many car buyers in the country.
