The Stellantis group has further reinforced its commitment to fighting climate change by partnering with Leader Energy Group to expand solar power energy generation at its plant in Gurun, Kedah, Malaysia.
This partnership covers the installation, operation, maintenance and financing of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at the plant. Furthermore, Stellantis will also seek to improve energy efficiency of the plant’s operations.
Adopting solar power is another step forward in Stellantis’ march to achieve carbon net zero emissions by 2038, a key part of its Dare Forward 2030 strategy. The installation of the PV power system at the Gurun plant will generate a maximum output of 2,189.81-Kilowatt peak (kWp) electricity.
Over the next 21 years, these PV systems are expected to generate 54.811-Gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy, an estimated 34 percent of the plant’s annual energy consumption requirements.

This is expected to offset approximately 1,963.4 tons of carbon dioxide annually, or the equivalent of 50,340 trees planted in a year.
The collaboration is part of Stellantis’ continuous efforts to improve the energy efficiency of its operations globally. This follows Stellantis’ efforts to ramp up solar projects in Michigan, U.S., and the implementation of PV systems at its Mangualde plant in Portugal.
Leader Energy Group is a Malaysian-based power company with over 20 years of operations in the power sector across Asia Pacific. The collaboration with Stellantis sees the project managed by Leader Solar Sdn. Bhd., a Malaysian-based subsidiary of Leader Energy.
The Peugeot 3008
Leader Solar provides renewable energy solutions to Commercial & Industrial (C&I) clients across the region. It took four months to complete the on-site construction of the single rooftop solar PV system designed for the plant and was completed on 31 October 2022.
The renewable energy solutions provided by Leader Energy for C&I is dedicated to help companies meet their environmental goals. Leader Solar offers a hassle-free Solar PV Zero Capex solution for clients to immediately obtain savings using clean energy to mitigate climate change.
The Peugeot 5008
Apart from Stellantis, Leader Energy itself is committed towards doing its part in Malaysia’s agenda of achieving 31 percent renewable energy mix by 2025, and 40 percent by 2035. The rooftop solar PV project at Stellantis’ Gurun plant brings them a huge step forward in that direction as well.
The Stellantic Gurun plant produces and supplies Peugeot models such as the 2008, 3008 and 5008 models to markets in Asean including Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Cambodia.
