Season 9 of the Formula E calendar is expected to be the most riveting yet with the latest evolution cars and a raft of new circuits included on the calendar. South Africa happens to be on the receiving end of this since the World Championship Calendar includes Hyderabad in India, Sao Paulo in Brazil, as well as our very own Cape Town which will have Table Mountain serve as a stunning backdrop to the weekend events.
It is worth noting that this is a provisional calendar and although the Cape Town E-Prix has been included, there is no certainty that it will go ahead unless the streets of Green Point, converted to the circuit, abide by the strict regulations of the FIA. The calendar shared on the Formula E website includes several tracks that are subject to FIA homologation, Cape Town being one of them. Tickets are yet to be released and ticket prices are still unconfirmed at this point.
Despite this, Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer, Formula E, said: “We are excited to announce Cape Town as a new destination for our series in Season 9. Our local partners are working incredibly hard to bring an ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race to the city and we cannot wait to see the futuristic Gen3 race cars competing against the iconic natural backdrop of Table Mountain.
The recently confirmed Cape Town E-Prix also happens to coincide with the recently announced dates of the Kyalami 9 Hour which will be happening in Johannesburg over the same weekend. Of the two scheduled international motoring events expected next year, both will be taking place at the same time disappointingly.
