The V-12 S-Class, perfected.
You can make a strong case for the W140-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class of the Nineties being the brand’s peak. The stately styling has stood strong throughout the years (the Maybach was based on this platform, and production ran into the last decade), while the drivetrains are relatively reliable pieces of engineering. The ride comfort is unmatched, and the interior still impresses. But there’s always room for improvement. That’s where RENNtech comes in.
RENNtech is a Florida-based tuner that specializes in Mercedes products. While the firm mainly focus on newer AMG stuff, sometimes it dips its toes into classic metal, as is the case with this 1992 600SEL, dubbed the S76R. It’s been completely revamped with a 7.6-liter version of the M120 V-12—the largest displacement offered by any firm, ever, according to RENNtech. It makes an incredible 615 hp and 703 lb-ft of torque.
The tuning didn’t stop at the engine, obviously. The brakes have been replaced with modern carbon-ceramic units from Mercedes with six-piston fronts and four-piston rears, along with a newer ABS system. There’s a custom exhaust with equal-length headers, along with an AMG bodykit. The wheels are custom three-piece forged units that look absolutely baller.
The interior’s been given a fair bit of attention as well, with a custom upholstery fitted that includes high-quality leather and Alcantara. The trim is, naturally, carbon fiber.
Presumably you can own an S76R of your own, should you have enough cash to burn. RENNtech doesn’t give pricing for its custom builds, though we can assume it’ll cost you at least as much as a new S-Class to get all of this stuff done to your W140.
