Charles Leclerc (MON) Ferrari F1-75. Canadian Grand Prix, Friday 17th June 2022. Montreal, Canada.
Charles Leclerc will take a grid penalty at this weekend’s Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix after exceeding his power unit allocation.
Leclerc suffered reliability setbacks in Spain and Azerbaijan, retiring from both races, and Ferrari confirmed earlier on Friday that his power unit was not salvageable.
After the conclusion of practice on Friday it was confirmed that Leclerc will take a third Control Electronics, exceeding his allocation, and therefore incurring a 10-place demotion.
It remains feasible that further penalties could follow on Saturday if Ferrari elect to fit more fresh components.
Leclerc finished in second place during practice on Friday afternoon at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve,
He trails Max Verstappen in the championship by 34 points.
