As we approach the end of 2022, it seems the all-electric Ora Good Cat will deliver its promise of launching in Malaysia this year. If the car’s name sounds familiar, that’s because the Ora Good cat has been spied on several occasions and was previewed in July.
This week during a media drive, Great Wall Motor Malaysia announced that the Ora Good Cat will be launched in November. Sources close to the matter say that three variants will be offered, namely the “Tech”, “Pro”, and “Ultra”.
The “Pro” and “Ultra” will be launched first, with an estimated price between RM150,000 to RM 180,000. The base-spec “Tech” variant will follow after, and it could be priced below RM 150,000.
Before we go on, let us first give you an idea of the size of the Ora Good Cat. Although its curves and looks are adorable, the Good Cat is bigger than it looks in the pictures. Measuring 4,235 mm long, 1,825 mm wide, 1,596 mm tall, and with a 2,650 mm wheelbase, the Ora Good Cat is about the size of a Proton X50 (4,330 mm length, 1,800 mm width, 1,609 mm height, 2,600 mm wheelbase).
Now, onto the variants. Both the “Tech” and “Pro” have an all-electric NEDC range of 400km. Over in Thailand, they are called the “400 Tech” and “400 Pro”, reflecting their electric (NEDC) range. The battery in use is a 47.788-kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery pack.
Capable of more range is the “Ultra” variant which is known as the “500 Ultra” in Thailand. As you can guess from its name, the Ora Good Cat Ultra has an electric range of 500 km (NEDC). This is thanks to a larger 63.139-kWh ternary lithium battery pack.
All three versions of the Ora Good Cat get an electric motor that churns out 143 hp (metric) and 210 Nm that sends all power to the front wheels. There is a more powerful version called the Ora Good Cat GT that makes 171 hp (metric) and 250 Nm, but there is no hint of that coming to Malaysia soon.
As for charging, the “Tech” and “Pro” Ora Good Cat take 8 hours to charge from 0 to 100% via AC charging and 46 minutes to charge from 0 to 80% via DC fast charging. The “Ultra” variant charges from 0 to 100% in 10 hours via AC charging and takes 60 minutes to charge from 0 to 80% with DC fast charging.
Design-wise, the Ora Good Cat has a unisex appeal to it and has a rather distinctive bulbous appearance. If you’re loving the look of it, you might want to thank the Good Cat’s designer, Emanuel Derta, who is a former Porsche designer. Both the “Pro” and “Ultra” sit on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/50 R18 tyres. The Thai-spec “Tech” variant gets 17-inch wheels.
As for colours, the Ora Good Cat is available in both dual-tone and single-tone schemes. Single-tone schemes include:

On the inside, the Ora Good Cat gets a futuristic-looking cabin with funky-coloured upholstery, a panoramic roof and a large 17.25-inch digital display spanning halfway across the dashboard (10.25-inch infotainment screen & 7-inch digital cluster). There is also an array of options for interior colour schemes.
Safety-wise, the range-topping Ora Good Cat should offer Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA), Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC & S&G), Blindspot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA), and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA).
Also equipped are Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), Intelligent Dodge, Road Condition Intelligent Speed Limit, Lane Change Assist (LCA), Intelligent Cruise Assistance, Intelligent Cornering Control, Traffic Jam Assist, and Automatic Emergency Braking. Further information on specs will be announced upon launch.
