Hitting 100 km/h from a stop in 3.2 seconds.
Sure, the BMW M2 Competition is pretty quick. But is it really fast? Does it merit a Competition badge? Maybe. But not everybody thinks it’s the pinnacle of the M2. Like the folks at G-Power. Who have boosted the baby M’s power by more than half. To knock on the door of hypercar power.
The M2 turned into the M2 Competition by ditching the existing powerplant and putting in the beefier unit from the M4. With 3.0L, twin turbos, and six-cylinders in a line. That made 405 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Much more than the M2’s 365 hp, but a hair under the M4. Can’t step on the big brother, right?
German tuner G-Power has no such reservations. They’re perfectly happy to let the delightfully-sized M walk all over the rest of the family. And the families of some pretty massive supercars too.
It starts with a pair of modified turbos. G-Power changed the compressor wheels out for some new CNC-milled ones. Larger diameter than the factory bits. The company says that improved machining lets it flow more air than stock. And makes for a lighter wheel that can spin up more quickly. To go with the changed turbine wheels are CNC-milled exhaust and compressor housings with bigger ports.
Those twin-turbos exit into a new exhaust. Twin 90mm tailpipes let out a massive roar.
Then the M2 Competition heads to the dyno for some tuning. And with just turbo changes, exhaust, and tuning, we think G-Power might be yadda, yadda-ing over some of the details. Because the result is astounding.
680 hp and 634 lb-ft of torque.
So what does that mean for performance? The G-Power M2 Competition can hit 100 km/h from a stop in 3.2 seconds. And top out somewhere around 330 km/h. That’s if you have them remove the original 250 km/h limiter along with the rest of the programming.
There are handling upgrades too, which is a bold move on a car this finely tuned. It starts with the tuner’s G2M RS coil overs. There are also some very cool (and in the photos very orange) 20-inch alloys with 245-wide tires up front and 285 in the rear.
How much does the upgrade run? About €20,000. On top of your base M2 Competiton. Which makes it, in Germany at least, about the same price as an M4 Competition. But with less size and way more power. Mmm.
