Elon Musk, who has been advocating for peace between Russia and Ukraine, is looking for ways to de-escalate the war. He tweeted that he’d been up all night trying to think of possible ways to de-escalate the situation. In response to Max Tegmark, who said that he thought there was a one-in-six chance of an imminent global nuclear war, Elon Musk said that the probability of nuclear war is rising rapidly.

He received a lot of backlash last week over his ideas for a peace plan that many see as simply an attempt to appease Russia. Appeasing Hitler didn’t work during WW2, and giving Russia what it wants, in my opinion, doesn’t help in the long run. However, Elon’s focus isn’t on pleasing either side but on trying to save lives. He’s said many times that he loves humanity.
Elon has long been concerned about the failure of civilization and the possibility of humans going extinct. Nuclear war is sure to accelerate that reality.
“I love humanity, and I think that we should fight for a good future for humanity. I think we should be optimistic about the future and fight to make that optimistic future happen,” he said during an interview in April. He’s also tweeted about his love for humanity a few times.
“I do care that millions of people may die needlessly for an essentially identical outcome,” he said on Twitter recently. He pointed out that he hasn’t heard a realistic path to peace and noted that when Russia fully mobilizes, millions on both sides will die.
Although I am not an expert on these matters, it seems that Putin doesn’t want peace. After all, his soldiers would have never invaded Ukraine without his ordering them to. The horrors that many Ukrainians have experienced, such as rape and murder, shouldn’t be without consequence.
Elon Musk is right. Millions will die as long as the world’s political leaders continue down this path. The tweet below may have been about Mars, but Elon’s words are important. And so is his call for peace. The leaders of the world, especially Putin, need to pause and listen.
