Porsche is adding to the 911 family with the introduction of a lightweight variant of the Carrera. The new Carrera T, with the letter “T” signifying touring, takes the standard model and offers a purist driving experience with even more exceptional sporty equipment. This is what an indicative price of just over R2 million will include in the model.

Compared with the regular Carrera, the new Carrera T embodies performance hardware that’s not even offered on the base coupe. For instance, every 911 T has a mechanical limited-slip differential with Porsche’s torque-vectoring system. It also comes standard with the brand’s active suspension (PASM) with specially tuned dampers. Another feature that’s not available on the Carrera but is optional on the T is rear-axle steering.
Drawing power from the same 3,0-litre bi-turbo engine found in its siblings paired with a seven-speed manual shifter generating 283 kW of power and 450 N.m of torque. According to Porsche, the new Carrera delivers a 0-100 km/h time of 4,5 seconds in the seven-speed manual transmission and the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission it will go from 0-100 km/h in just 3,8 seconds with a top speed of 291 km/h.

On the exterior, the Porsche 911 Carrera T stands out from the rest of the model line with Dark Grey accentuating details. Contrasting elements such as the top and bottom trim on the exterior mirrors, the new door logos and the rear logos and the trim strips on the rear lid grille feature Agate Grey. The windscreen also features a grey top tint and the tailpipes of the sports exhaust system are in high-gloss black. It all gives the new 911 Carrera T an even more extroverted and dynamic look.
Unique to the new Carrera T are elements such as lightweight glass and a lightweight battery with a reduction in sound insulation and the removal of the rear seats all designed to reduce its kerb weight. The result is a 35 kg drop in weight over the standard PDK-equipped Carrera, bringing the total weight to 1 470 kg.

The cabin is trimmed with a mix of dark grey, matte black, and glossy black accents. For those who do want a fancier interior for their Carrera T, there are options to do so, they include a package that adds stitched upholstery, 911 logos on the headrests, and seat belts in Slate Gray or Lizard Green. For a unique interior look, the Carrera T further gets a GT sports steering wheel and four-way electronically-adjustable Sports seats which can be additionally customised to 18-way electric seats.

The new Carrera T brings more sound, less weight and an increase in engagement compared to the entry-level 911. the lightweight 911 Carrera T is set to go on sale in South Africa from 2023, at an indicative price of R2 080 000.
