BERLIN: American-Italian electric mobility startup Aehra is sharing more details about its unconventional electric SUV, set to stand out with four gull-wing doors that open outwards like the petals of a flower.
Rivalling the BMW iX and Mercedes EQS, Aehra’s as-yet-unnamed luxury SUV has up to 816hp and is set to go on sale in just over two years, the company has announced.
The SUV, imagined by a former Lamborghini designer, promises low air resistance and strikingly short overhangs, tear-off edges accentuated by LED strips and a spoiler integrated into the front bonnet.
There are also mirrors you’d expect to see on a racing motorbikes and four doors that open diagonally upwards like those on super sports cars.
The specs of the 5.10-metre-long five-seater, which weighs less than expected thanks to a lightweight carbon fibre monocoque chassis, are set to easily outrank those of the competition.
Aehra says the car will be available for between €160,000 and €180,000 (RM850,000), with four-wheel drive and up to 816 hp for a top speed of 265kph and batteries that will allow a standard range of more than 800km, putting it among the highest in electric mobility.
The manufacturer, based near Milan, also wants to install the same technology in a flatter vehicle that will then compete against electric luxury saloons like BMW’s i7, Nio’s ET7 and Tesla’s Model S.
